Hi All, looking for a little advice. My son has a 2013 E82 Coupe. When you push the unlock button, the head lights come on along with the dome light, which turns off after a few seconds. He wants to install some lights on the bottom of his car that will come on with the dome light and then go off, when it does. He does not want to drive around with the lights, nor have to push a button. I thought this would be a good project for us to work on together. So, I am asking for a little advice.
1.) I probably can tap into the wire for the dome light, but would not even begin to know where the best place to tap into it at. There has to be a relay or something that produces the delay. Any help would be much appreciated. 2.) would I need to add anything else or just tap into the wire. 3.) I wanted to do this project with him together but if you think it is just to much for a novice, I would certainly listen to your advice. Thanks and much appreciated' |

Here I am thinking puddle lights were standard on 1ers. You can either get one of those eBay special lights that mount under the door or get the oem ones. Part numbers 63317184361 63317184362 . Pic related.

Those are nice. I had them on my first 135i, an '08.

Yea, from what I am reading in the US, you have to have the premium package to get puddle lights.

I had the Premium Package, but it didn't list the puddle lights. It must not list every item.

Interesting.. never new this was an option on the 135i. Great father & son project if you take it on post a how to DIY.
My e60 545 had puddle lighting in the door bottoms not the handle. They were great to have and oddly welcoming when unlocking the car at night. There were also aftermarket logo kits that were kind of cheesy yet cool in a way. FYI for the e82 135/128 You can program the interior & exterior headlight lighting to come on / stay on longer using Carly and other code programming tools. I did a search and found a few links in a google search about the e82 door handle puddle lights. They were standard on Canadian cars, an option on EU, and in the US part of a premium lighting package so probably a rare find on 1ers b/c few people likely ordered them extra. Two options - you could retrofit the door handle lights to keep it OEM or tap into the wiring in the door to retrofit aftermarket lights in the door bottom or under the car somehow. The fact that the wiring is there makes it easier for sure 1addicts - https://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=430379 Which links to babybmw.net with a DIY on how to retrofit but the picture links are broken - looks like a decent write up tho. https://www.babybmw.net/forum/viewto...29&t=20428

This puddle thing is interesting. Always thought they were standard on all 1 series. The Monroney sticker for my 2008 135i does not mention the puddle lights. So, they must be part of the Premium Package (as Esteban says) as that and heated seats (and paint) are only BMW options on my car.

I've been looking into this as well. I already have the door handle puddle lights, but am interested in a projection lamp under the door when it opens. Seems they were available, but maybe not for our cars - and the OEM parts are scarce. Let me know what you wind up doing. I'm in Columbia
