Angry 2010 E88 128i - Unable to Reset Brake light after pad and sensor change

Hello,

This car is for my neighbor, he complained to me that after having mechanic install new brake pads about 2 months ago the brake light did not go off. Neighbor purchased the new pad himself by the way. I asked him whether he had also got new sensors but I do not think he understood. I went in and removed front wheel and it was clearly older sensor in. He confirmed he did not buy those. I had him purchase new sensors, and worked with him to install the pair.
However upon restart the lights did not go off ("brake" symbol and the red lifted car). When I checked the mileage count for front and brake pads using the BC button both showed dashes and will not reset when pushing/holding BC button.

What am I missing here

Thanks Mr Gasser. I have seen and tried the instructions in the video to no avail. Does e-brake = handbrake?

Yes, it could have a touchy switch connection.

There are some threads on this issue. There is a special reset procedure for the brake pad wear sensor.

I'll try and find it and post it here.

Read that and you'll get it! Just have to trick the system that the sensor went off and then reset the brake light. Turn off ignition, replace the sensor, then turn on ignition and the light should be gone

If the rear is low, you will have to trick that sensor too by plugging in a new one in the rear, resetting via stalk then plugging old one back in. Just had this happen last week. Once you plug the old one back in, the system will jump back to the old mileage.

If you have the Carly for BMW app plus adapter can you code the reset in? I remember seeing some options to reset certain maintenance intervals, is the brake pad sensor one of them?

I'm not too sure about how much Carly can do, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could just code it out.

I used the "shorting" out method that I posted above and that worked fine for me. As long as you don't "trip" the sensor to tell you that you need new pads, you should never have to reset the brake light. I've been on the same sensor for the last two pad changes and still no light. You just need to be careful when removing the sensor as it could break if not taken off with care. It's not an expensive fix, but you would just need to do the circuit shorting method again.
