DIY - Installing Mud Flaps
Tools:
Drill Pick tool Small hammer Strong cleaner to clean your metal and plastic. Pliers Ratchet and socket Allen keys Alright, when you call the dealer and say "How long to put 4 mud flaps on" and they say 90mins, you tend to be skeptical. Sh*t man, its only like 10 fasteners. You read the forums here and everyone says "you gotta take the wheels off as well as jack up the car" Well, you don't. I did all four corners in about 90mins with the car on the ground and all four wheels secure. The rears are actually harder than the fronts, as there is limited space between the wheel and the fender, you need to use a shorty screw driver to remove/install some screws. TIPS: Make sure to super-clean the body panels where the mud flaps will cover before installing. Use a pick tool to peel back the paper from the two sided tape (if you use your fingers, you will just mangle it). When you put the fender in place, jam it on their quick and hard. (These things fit super snug and you only get one chance with the sticky two sided tape) On the front's, when you go to put the long ribbed fastener into the rocker panel (pushing up) DON'T USE YOUR HAND/FINGERS. It will just bend on you. It requires alot of pressure to insert it. What worked really well is an allen key. There is a hole in the head of the fastener, and it runs almost the length of the fastener. Stick the long end of the allen key as far as it will go, position the fastener, lay on your back and push hard and fast. That thing is in so tight it's not even funny. To install the single fastener inside the wheel well, just turn the wheels to full lock. You will need to drill a hole in the fender behind where the mounting hole is on the mud flap. Lets use the driver's side for example. Turn the wheels all the way to the right. You now have enough room to lay on your back and get a drill on the inside of the wheel to drill this hole. It's "just enough room" for your drill. I actually had to hold the drill upside down in order to use it as it would hit the suspension bits. I like the look of the mud flaps on my AW. I was getting sick of road fling along my side skirts minutes after washing and detailing my car. They fit extremely snug, and once in place there are no gaps at all. Very well made parts by BMW. I used a bug and tar cleaner. Then soap and water, then rinse, then wipe. I really didn't want any dirt between the flap and the body.
One other tip for the rear mud flaps. You only get one square clip in your package. I found it belonged to the left rear wheel well. You will see inside teh wheel well an existing hole. It does not line up with the mud flap when you test fit it (but its close). The hole is too big anyways for a screw, but guess what? Its perfect for the clip. Push the clip into the hole, then slide it (position it) away from you and at about a 45 degree angle from the floor. Check to see that it lines up with the hole in the mud flap, then use a pick tool to poke a hole in the centre of the clip so the mounting screw has something to start grabbing on to. Install this screw last after everything else is tight. |

I had mud flaps installed on my 135 and it looks good. I think that it is a good investment to protect the under body paint against rock chip.

looks good. Can you take side shots of the car to see the whole profile? Also would like to see the stripe better too.

My UK dealers says they don't do mud flaps that fit the front on the 135i MSport as it has different bumpers (fenders) to the normal Coupe.
They can only supply / fit rears ( |
