As for owning one they are pretty decent off the lot but I'd have a never ending urge to modify them, something the 1-er didn't make me do. It would indeed be hard to truly consider a GTI.
The new Hyundai i30N is really something competitive now.

I driven many of them as a student back in early 2000's when my 944 turbo needed repairs, thrashed the living daylights out of them and they kept going. They may had been "cheap quality" cars, but mechanically faultless.

The new i30N, as far as i know, has been rigorously tested, redlining the engine for 300,000 kms and survived just fine and everything is within specs. It would be a ton cheaper to own and maintain that i30N and more reliable than any VW today.
How do you know its been tested to those specs? What does BMW test to? Man 300,000kms at redline, I'll never upshift again!

Again, only me, but my BMW had only a couple of minor issues for the first 4 years I owned it and it was 2 years old already when I bought it. Some of that is because the car is simpler (no sunroof, no rear window sprayer) but the car doesn't leak in the ran, light bulbs don't pop out when I close the trunk, just random things that happened to my VW that shouldn't happen to any car, and didn't happen in my BMW. Completely anecdotal.
Look on this or any other BMW board and you will find MANY BMW owners complaining about their cars with poor engineering, poor material quality, a lack of testing, and lots of bad luck.

BMW excels at making cars that look like luxury cars that are really full of cheap plastic parts that won't last for the duration. And they obviously know that when they engineer the cars but they don't give a shit because they are making cars that look like luxury cars to sell at a certain price point.

Welcome to the automotive industry!

There is a video somewhere, i think it was a documentary about the Nürburgring.

300,000 kms at redline maybe excessive yes, but i have seen 330ci track cars with 330,000+ kms (300,000 of them on the track) getting a rebuild, and internally there was nothing wrong with them. I do not know how BMW tests their engines honestly.

Any example of a "luxury" car that is not made of plastic parts?
I see you mention BMW, it seems exclusive to it.

IMHO< BMW owners are among the largest group of complaining, self aggrandizing, whiners in the world, cars and motorcycles.

Definitely a C7 Corvette. I test drove a 2014 Z51 a few weeks ago- wow. Loud (in a good way), fast, handles insanely well, and has the best electric steering rack I've ever felt. At under $40k for a well-maintained used example, they may be the best performance bargain on the market.

I've actually been considering selling the 135i and buying an r33 gtr or gtst now that they are legal to import. Gtst are dirt cheap, 15k ish, and I took a look at a gtr vspec with 60k miles for 25 grand. Aside from that probably on a focus RS. Unfortunately I love the 135i too much to part with it at this point.

My friend was going to buy a 2015 stingray, it was only high 40k, I was shocked it was so cheap, only 25k miles too.

I toyed around idea of trading the 135 in for a 2018 M5 lease last week. Wife said she will pay for a new M5 once our nanny expenses are gone in 2 years.

Hey! Car isnt in good condition but is still alive and daily driveable. Oil drain plug is stripped and free spins. Im not the one who put the drain plug in btw.. Cant get it out and now have to deal with an oil leak and going to have to buy a new oil pan. Still no speedometer, abs, traction control, etc... Needs 4 tires. Has a new silver passenger door since the hit and run but haven't got any of the body damage fixed yet. Found out the front right shot is leaking sooo thats nice.

Made a nice LONG list and i think its best to get rid of the thing. Going to hopefully slap a new oil pan on and fix the speed sensor issue soon then put it up for sale. Gonna be driving the ole e30 when it gets worked on and sold.

Havent been on 1addicts in a while cause of that hit and run. My car is pretty much my life and when that happened i kinda got a little sad and didnt really do a whole lot lol.

Get it fixed. Doesn't your insurance cover it?

I'd be pretty passes if a shop stripped out my oil plug or any other bolt.

The C7s really are fantastic cars for the money. Prices will probably drop even more over the winter, low mileage '14s might be in the $35-$37k range by January. It's not easy to find one in the right spec at the right price, but I plan on buying as soon as a good one pops up.

Those G90 M5s look and sound great. If you end up waiting, there might be an LCI out by the time you buy/lease.

Trying to get it fixed. Reason why its taking so long is cause of a problem with one of my dads projects and the windows wont roll up all the way so cant really leave it out in the driveway. Would go through insurance but dont want my rates to go up.

Yeah my dad and i are kinda pissed that it happened. We think it was the wrong drain plug that went in. Oh well, cant go back and change it so just gotta deal with it

Your rates shouldn't go up when it's not your fault.

They shouldn't, but they sometimes do.

They generally don't on your first not-at-fault incident, but if you get repeated ones it starts to count against you.

Insurance companies these days recognize that some drivers may never be "in the wrong" but behave in ways that cause other drivers to be in the wrong. For example, if you get rear-ended three times in three years, you'll never be in the wrong, but it's pretty safe to say you've got unpredictable braking habits.

Insurance is about managing risk, not about the law. It's entirely possible to be a shit driver who never breaks the law, and insurance companies will put your premium up if they recognize that.

(I'm not saying OP is a shit driver. I'm saying insurance companies do include not-at-fault accidents to assess your overall risk)
