I have a theory on how mine failed. My battery was getting low and I didn't bother replacing it so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. But anyways I had a little leak in my expansion tank that I didn't notice so I guess I was losing coolant when it would pressurize. I believe this resulted in the coolant thickening and this cause the water pump to work harder until it just couldn't pump anymore. So I paid like $1,500 to fix the water pump and expansion tank at an indy shop. I bought all my parts from FCP Euro which is an amazing site by the way. According to them I have a lifetime warranty so if the water pump ever fails again they just give me a new pump. Anyone have any experience with them?

Looks like RockAuto has he water pump from several manufacturers for about $300. I like the Beck, I think, that has the bolts and a 36 month warranty. Not really long enough but better than some of the others.

Get it at FCPEURO and get (25 to life) warranty that is.

Got water pump replaced with thermostat and all ended up running 1.2k. Happy I don't have to worry about that but now indy shop told me the OFH is leaking very slightly, Dang! They recommended to do the OFH at next oil change since I recently changed the oil and leak is not bad.

Looks like mine is going. Had the expansion tank replaced under CPO in June because of leak. Now I’m getting high temp caution. Just came back from dealer and they added about a quart of coolant at N/C. Got home and caution flashed back on. Dealer said no codes from the key fob read. Right at 65k.

Don't wait too long on the OFHG. I did and it started leaking into the belt & started chirping so I had to replace the belt, tensioner & pulley also. The OFHG was covered by my Route 66 warranty.

Thanks for the advise, never considered the belts. I was thinking of taking care of the OFHG next spring since I don't drive it much in the winter. I guess I will tackle this in the near future instead.

Mine failed at 37K, it cost me $1125 at a local shop. They used OEM parts because I compared the old parts to the boxes and realized they were the same.

The warnings were a flash of the yellow overheat with a burp of coolant when I was about a mile from home one day, no problem the next day, then two days later if flashed the yellow overheat and the fan ran up to high speed as I parked it at home.

Mine made terrible noise while running.
Like a buzzing sound.
The original water pump in my 2008 135i made it to 110k!!! I was shocked. But the inside cylinder plastic started cracking..
I changed mine as preventative maintenance doing other work under there. So glad I did.
But mine made weird buzzing noise.
And your water pump will run when car is off sometimes, it's programmed that way if it's too hot when you shut the engine off.

I was right. Water pump. Watched the temp on way to dealer via Dash Cmd app and it was hovering at 217 with heat on. 1 mile from dealer went to 250 and yellow, then 259 red overheat/limp mode. Parked it at a Sams Club and waited an hour for AAA to tow me the rest of the way. $1250 to repair.

Waiting two days now, but dealer gave me a brand new M240i Xi vert as a service loaner. Not too bad, but I prefer the manic 1er DCT. Plus mine sounds better with PPK1/performance exhaust.

I also have the high temp warning lately. Even with the temperature below freezing. I will be making a full post once I get permission to. The reason why i'm posting this (to get my first post as a response)
