Nearly 6 Months, 19,000 Miles - A Few Problems to Share
I just found this site whilst trying to do some research on the problems I have been having with my car. I wondered if anyone else has experienced any of the following;
Autobox judder, particularly at low speed Terrible wind noise (like a hoover) at very high speed Seat belt tension problems CD Changer sound quality issues Low speed acceleration metalic noise........ I know I have put on some steep miles, but I bought a BMW because of the percieved quality etc etc and I dont seem to be getting it right now. Its been to my dealer 5 times since I took delivery on 10th March and is going back again in September for first service, I have asked for it to be returned in 100% condition this time...... Anybody else having any similar issues? Any advice for showdown with dealer technical manager next month? |

my car has 460 miles on it, so i really cant help, but you might want to be a bit more specific with the problems. Im not the smartest guy in the forum but
1. i have no idea what an autobox judder is 2. when you say "very high speeds" what do you mean 5. what kind of "metalic" noise. like metal clanging on metal, or metal scrapping on metal?

I would take the car to a different dealer these all appear to be warranty related issues.
The high speed noise seems to be a common complaint, I must admit I find my E90 very quite at speeds up to 120mph, although the diesel is more refined than the petrol E90s I have driven. Intriguingly, I see the 330d is now available in the UK, perhaps you could do a gesture of good-will deal with the dealer and swap it for one of those sure to save a packet on your fuel costs. Please keep us up to date on your car. |

At high speeds I get a relatively high pitch whistling noice sometimes...it's actually pretty random. Sometimes it's there, other times, it is absolutely quiet.
Any answers from the dealership on that one? |

Wecome Spooner,
It seems from your post that you have had these problems from early on, seeing you have been back 5 times. I have a silky smooth auto, no CD change problems and no metallic noise whatsoever at any speed. As for wind noise, well, all cars suffer from it to some degree. You seem to be on the ball with wanting the car fixed to proper specifications as one would reasonably expect from any car, not just your BMW. So other than pressing your dealer's service department hard on these issues, you may need to speak with the service manager and general manager. Your records will be thee so it's not a one off issue. Take them for a drive and point the issues out and tell them to keep the car until it is fixed. Make sure you get a loaner. Good luck with those issues and let us know how it all goes.

High noise at very high speed?
How fast is that? Maybe some over expectation of what BMW can accomplish? AutoBox judder? Idle set too low? |

Thanks for all responses, it seems that most are unaffected but some do share issues.
David325, thanks for the advice, loan car booked etc - cheers Bigman - No thanks, there isnt anything quite like the sweet sound of a straight german (petrol) six........ I'll let you all know, my dealer cant get me in until 21st September! so perhaps looking at changing dealers might be a good idea. |

Had the Sept Software Update - All is Well
So my dealer had the car for 2 days, but the wait was worth it.
The software update has fixed the autobox issues and it seems like a different car. Smooth, quicker shifts, no hesitation - the box is now ahead of the game. The windscreen rubber has been replaced - no more noise CD Changer, changed New seat belt fitted Now I have the car that I thought I was buying. I would recommend all auto drivers to go and get the software update, it made a huge difference for me (rembering that mine was a March 10 delivery). Anyway, I'm off for some more sports mode action Thanks for all your comments |

Mine is a July delivery June built 330 (without a moonroof) and itīs by far the quietest car Iīve had at high speeds (even at 155mph).
Only a Lexus SC400 I once drove came close. So wind noise is not a basic E90 problem.

most important was that the bmw service guys were able to repair your car to the expected high standard that bmw is renowned for. obviously it helped the service guys to see/hear/smell/feel the problems rather than they not show up when you leave the car in their hands, which happens all too often. 3 cheers and happy and trouble free motoring in your e90 for as long as you keep it. good news.

about the CD changer problem...are you listening to burn CDs? If so...make sure to burn at very low speed and do not run other programs while burning

Hi from Spain, I haven't had any problems on my 320i (took delivery in late June, 3,000 km - almost 2,000 miles), everything ok. But from what I read everyday on a Spanish BMW forum quiet a few people are having problems, specially the diesel (320d): turbos, AC out, varied rattles/noises, and a part called damper (I don't know what it is) has broken down in at least four cars as far as I know, always with a rattle that maybe is similar to your noise.
I hope the dealer solves all the problems, bye. |
