In a bad place...

Well, I'm an idiot. I purchased my car - the launch car - and because the dealer owned it first: before me - the launch car is considered a "demo" and I am not eligible for the "Year 1 of the 1" Commemorative Book. Neither is the dealer because it wasn't a 'retail sale'. Needless to say I'm crushed with disappointment: I had no reason o think I wouldn't get one and now BMW is telling me there is no way.

That totally sucks.

I call BS. I am pretty sure my car was the same thing and I got one. Mine is the black sapphire, coral red, and all that jazz and i got my book in the mail. I got the car with 400 miles on it, so i am sure it was a demo, also because of the discount they gave me on it.

check with your dealer, more than likely they recieved the book as "the customer" They probably didn't realize that it went with the car. I'm guessing it's either in the GM's office or the sales managers. Same thing happened with one of our cars. We got a book in, we thought it was just sent to us to show what clients got. It actually belonged to our 128 launch car.

That has nothing to do it with it being a demo. The dealer has to mark it as a demo. Yours was just a 135 with 400 miles & an appropriate discount

I did the same thing. I brought the dealer demo car and i got the book in the mail a few wks later. I think they are giving the run around. Good luck. Hope you get your book.

It's not that big a deal. I got it, looked at it once and put it away. To be honest, this forum is a hundred times better than the book.

That is BS. Mine was a demo also, it was put into service in March of 08. I got it with 1750 miles on November of 08. I got my book, certificate and the dvd's , on the mail a few weeks later.

I thought so too. Yes - the CAR is awesome - it's rolling therapy but I hate being told "no, you can't" so I'm raising hell with both BMW NA and my dealer who is actually the most helpful out of the two.

Keep after the BMWNA folks and you'll eventually get someone to hear your story. Each of the year 1 cars got the book - the challenge is if it's already been printed and sent to actually get someone to say so. Then you know where to look.
However, if you do come up dry, I second the opinion of above, it's not that big a deal. I read the first 10 pages and now......it's just a book.

Update: My dealer rattled some cages and yesterday I got a FedEx with ... The Book!

However - two of the most important things were missing - the VIN plate and certificate!

I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick that ^&%$# football! Aughhhhhhhhh!

Ahhh but Mr. Bacon - did you have the certificate and plate that made it all worthwhile? I had to rattle some serious cages - and then: after all the BS they send me a half-assed attempt to shush me. I'm largely unimpressed but also over it.

I am currently raising hell with BMWNA because they are also giving me the run around. I have already written them a long letter and have someone investigating the matter. I don't understand why they have this DEMO policy and they won't explain it. It would be nice to have other names to attach on my future letters. They should have disclosed this upfront. I agree that the book isn't a big deal, but it also isn't a big deal for BMW to give the book to us.

Demo car is not soo bad, at least you have the warranty on it, which makes it more acceptable.

My car is a demo, it only had 250 miles on it when I purchased it, and because it was a demo car i got a great deal! and I got the Year 1 of the 1" Commemorative Book idk why you didn't that sucks man.

It does suck - but the car sooooooooo makes it worthwhile every time I turn her on. I love that little black beast - I have the book - just not the stuff that personalizes it. It's a half measure but it's really not so bad anymore. I overnighted a letter to Jim O'Donnell more out of interest than any real hope that the executive will actually receive let alone read it. It will be interesting to see how that goes.
