How is nav useful for other than directions
Few Questions
1) Does the Ipod show the ipod menu on the nav screen? 2) Does setting a steering wheel button to mute set up only thru nav 3) What else does the nav do over a non nav screen other than directions? Thanks |

I recently asked for someone to make a video of the iDrive functions, but apparently it was too much work, or maybe not enough people saw it, dunno, but I'm interested in this as well.

Sometimes I forget about the voice command feature. I can't wait to try that stuff out and to see if it works as well as it should.

Still waiting for the 1er, but my understanding is that the RTTI signals are piggybacked on top of regular FM signals in the supported areas, so you don't need any service plan or anything. It just knows. |

That's correct, no service agreement is needed for traffic info. When you bring up the list, it displays in ascending order according to the traffic disruption's distance from your current position, and it will alert you if any disruptions are on a nav route that you're following.

The data is transmitted over the FM band using FM-RDS/TMC. HD-Radio is not required, but they also transmit info over HD-Radio. |

2: All the steering-wheel buttons are configurable through iDrive, as are most other car settings, including lock/unlock, blinkers, "beep" on locking, wiper settings, and pretty much anything else you could ever want to mess with. 3: Detailed configuration of anything and everything having to do with the car, including climate control, phone integration, sound, and just about EVERYTHING else you could ever want to change. For me, the sound settings and true ipod integration are big. I also find it MUCH less distracting than looking at a TINY radio screen down near the shifter that's invisible with polarized sun glasses when trying to go through an iPod, or just about anything else. You also can make the 6 "preset" buttons do whatever you want. I have button number "6" set to turn on my iPod, and go to the screen there that lets you dig through songs/playlists/artists/albums/etc. You can set them for radio stations, navigation functions, even climate control pre-sets. I'll do a video when my car gets back if no one has done one by then. I originally got it because I think navigation is a MUST for ED, but at this point I think it's worth it for all the other features it also provides. The convenience factor is huge.
