Dealership fees?

I was just wondering what you guys have been charged in terms of dealership fees. One dealership said the only fees would be temp tags and tire recycling (I will do tax and registration myself) but the second one is saying there's advertising and other fees that come to around $400...

I feel someone is messing with me here...

Anybody have any info on this?

The advertising fee is call MACO and cost around $400. Most of BMW dealership do charge MACO whe you buy a new BMW.

The only extra I was charged was the New York State Title and inspection fee. The dealer discounted the car $1000 to boot.....

Registration & Title - $242
"Dealer Processing Fee"- $ 99
Tire Recycling Fee - $ 4

No "MACO" fee mentioned.

Since I got a few bucks off MSRP, I guess I can't complain about the $99. But I'm still unhappy that BMW is not giving the normal CCA rebate on the 1 series.

it looks like it won't come up if you pay MSRP (it's included)... only when you negotiate from invoice... although looking at the wholesale price only the training fee is there $180.

My purchase order says I paid a $28.25 "Title / Drive Away" fee and a $299 "Documentary Fee". Other then that it's just the cost of the car and sales tax.

it looks like MACO is legit but only shows on the invoice price in some areas...

none of these things will come up when you negotiate from MSRP...

basically the price I got is $1000 off MSRP but it looks like I am not the only one... and for me it is only a $500 gain since I can order directly from BMW for $500 off MSRP

funny thing is I did a search on this forum but found nothing, did the search in Google and found plenty of links back to here...

I'm not understanding how any separate fee can be included in MSRP if it's not listed. The "base" MSRP for the 128i Cabrio is $33,100 to which the $775 Destination & Handling fee is added. So this car with no options would have an MSRP of $33,875. Or is that actually $33,475 + $400 MACO? Or could it be $30,475 + $3,400 MACO? Or is there any difference?

Now if you are negotiating up from invoice (which my dealer will emphatically not do), it would be one thing, but since most folks seem to be at or slightly below MSRP, then a MACO charge is simply additional dealer profit to offset an MSRP discount - like the $99 "Dealer Processing Fee" I'm paying.

By the way, if you managed $1,000 (or even $500) off MSRP in our area, congrats!

I told the dealer NO FEES whatsoever, he agreed. I ended up with a fantastic deal for this car in this area. About 4% off all told.

1) Well, it seems it is. For example, a training fee of $180 shows on the invoice price list but not in the retail price list. I guess MACO is the same except that it would show only for some states where it applies. I guess in some states BMW gets more $ given that MSRP remains the same throughout. $250 MACO fee and $180 training fee are included in the base price (for which there's no breakdown given so you don't know what exactly is being charged for what).

2) I was negotiating from invoice.

3) I just used the method posted here and in other forums...
