Will BMW be revising the n54 technical documents after 29.2 wastegate changes? (lag)
See below...
Notice the part about wastegates being closed "In the idle phase, wastegates of both turbochargers are closed" Well... not anymore with 29.2+ software, and v81... they are now open at idle, causing a different exhaust note, as well as lag as they close. Notice that it specifically says because the wastegates are closed at idle, the system can deliver power without "any noticeable time lag" So, then they literrally changed a MAJOR design parameter of the engine, we should not allow them to NERF our cars like this! Also, notice how it says that the closed wastegate also improve gas mileage! So I guess 29.2 will get worse gas mileage also. BMW should not be able to make a change like this... they should fix the mechanical problem, not release a software band-aid that adds lag into our system by disabling a feature! |

very good find.
I knew somthing was out there like this i just didnt feel like being the one to find it. It will make peoples arguments much stronger having actual proof of the changes made. Im surprised bmw hasnt changed the wording on everything yet. Seems to me there not expecting any reprocusions if they have yet to change the wording. |

If in fact they alter the car so as to reduce the mileage- they could be in for a major class action lawsuit. I remember a few years back some manufacturer fudging horsepower claims and it cost them.

My only issue right now is all of the waste gate problems people are having over on e90. I wonder if it is fixed on the newer cars, and if it isnt I hope it is for the 2009 production because I am ordering my car next month and JB3 is nice. Still need to get my ride from Kyle tho to really check it out.

I think the problem was not so much a design flaw, but as with the fuel pump as well, was more of a manufacturing defect. As the manufacturers ramp up production, the automate more steps, use different molds/machines, etc.. etc.. and even with tight quality control, the slightest out of spec design parameter can cause huge failures. This is also why you will see some cars that will never have the failure. Personally, I am waiting for a 2010 model before purchasing, but mainly because that is when my lease comes up on my 2007 335  -Rick P.S... as for the boost gauge, I ordered some parts to start working on it, maybe santa will bring you guys something. |

^ Funny thing, ever since I installed the JB3 the long cranks I was experiencing before seem to have been cut in half. I don't know if that's a fluke or what. I did change up the way I started the car as well. I now push the stop/start button once and wait five seconds or so and then start her up. My logic, if you want to call it that, was to allow the fuel pump to ready itself for ignition.
