ECS tuning problem - any other good sources?

I had a frustrating experience ordering from ECS tuning today. I placed my order over the weekend and had my shipping address set as the normal shipping depot I send my US orders to, and my billing address set to my normal home address. I had a customer service person from ECS call me today to say they can't deliver it to that address because I'm a new customer and my shipping address must match my billing address.

I've ordered literally hundreds of packages online from a variety of vendors to this address (i'm a canadian ordering to a shipping depot in the states), and I've never had such an issue before. Apparently it's ECS's policy to not ship to new customer orders where shipping and billing addresses do not match. A policy which seems absolutely ridiculous. Why even offer the option of differing addresses in the checkout process?

Anyways, to make this post 1 series related, I was hoping to do my oil change, brake fluid, spark plugs and install blackout grilles for my new-to-me 1er. I suppose I'll have to find a more customer friendly part source. I hear getbmwparts.com is good. Any other good ones?

I'm actually looking to order something from ECS my self, but had no plans to ship it to a depot.

Maranello BMW offers a maxbimmer forum member discount of 20% , makes oil for one change be about $65, and like $10 for the filter. Look into it

I had that same issue with ECS and they called me to say they can't send it to my work address, even though I explained that sending 125 pounds of stuff to my house, a secure building when nobody will ever be there to open the door and sign for it won't work.

However, if you pay through paypal and that address is on there, they said that would work, so that's what I did and worked out fine.

In the alternative, getbmwparts is good as is bmwpartspros.com. Not sure if any of them have policies though with or against shipping to Canada. I remember one of them not shipping there.

You might also try schmiedmann, as that's a good BMW parts website and is based in canada. Most US people buy their blacklines there.

I wish Schmiedmann were in Canada. If they were, I'd have bought blackline tails long ago.

I'm interested in this whole US shipping address business seems like a good way to skip out on HST and brokerage fees.

Oops, you're right and I was way off. I always thought they were.

I know a few places, getbmwparts included have issues, especially with first orders, of sending to addresses other than the billable one to prevent fraud from stolen credit cards.

I've had no issues with ECS. Of course I've always just ordered to my billing, so I cannot relate. However James @ ECS is awesome (I also know him personally) and I would hope you have a chance to talk to him and explain the situation. I don't think they want to turn away a good customer.

PS - TheBMWPartSource is a great place, and usually is cheaper than Tischer (getbmwparts)

Thanks for the responses. I think I'll try getting in touch with James at ECS as I was buying both VW and BMW parts and its much easier to just order everything from one place.

I can't see them turning away a customer who's going to make regular purchases over a shipping address.

Mr. Snood - I guess my guys should have explained the policy a little more. Shipping to matched billing and shipping addresses for the first order is a fraud protection policy. It's one of our security practices that we do not push aside. It is a hassle for some customers, but for many many other card holders it keeps them from placing orders without there knowledge.

Now there are two "easy" ways to move around this that my guys didn't explain to you. One is a PayPal address with the billing and shipping matched (as gregthegr8 pointed out), the other is a wire transfer.

Please feel free to shoot me a PM if you'd like more information, have any questions, or would like me to assist in any way.

-James

Pelican Parts has free shipping on stuff over $75. At least that's how it used to be. I used them all the time for my e46

I had a negative experience with ecs too, they would not declare a lower value for my order so I could avoid tax. But turner motorsport would.

Declaration of a lower value on cross boarder goods breaks several shipping regulations and can get the company doing it fined a TON. That's why we only declare actual value of any package being shipped.

I wouldn't call a company refusing to do something illegal a negative experience. That being said, I do appreciate when they do it

My first time ordering with ECS was a pain in the neck too. They kept denying my credit card as "fraudulent" for whatever reason. It took a few weeks with lot of emails and phone calls to get it sorted. This was back when I lived in Ohio, as well. Was tempted to just drive there myself. They eventually figured out whatever they had to figure out. I'm sure it's some sort of policy thing, but good lord was it annoying. They're cheaper than the dealership for small parts, so what are you going to do, eh?

I live near the arse end of the earth and got my goods from ecs quickly, cheap and without issue.
Not saying others haven't had issues. Just thought I'd balance the debate.

Check out FCP Euro. I've ordered three times from them so far and couldn't be happier. Almost always free shipping, honor price matching, constant communication and updates. Free DIY advice and help. Great company.

I won't order from ECS if I can avoid it. Their sales representatives apparently don't speak english well or have the collective IQ of a brick.

I've had great experience with ECS, but then all of my orders have been normal "click on the buy-it-button and get it in the mail" type transactions.
