Long Shot. Anyone want to teach me manual?

I know this is a long shot, and i dont really expect anybody to really do this but its worth a try. Im a 19 years old and have been trying to learn stick for about two years, but cant find anybody that has one to teach me or a car to learn on. I was wondering if anybody in the Los Angeles area would want to teach me how to drive stick

We need pics if female (disregard if male).

Surely you could find a friend or someone to let you learn on their car... Rental car might be another option.

I'm sure there are some tutorials on youtube if nothing else works. It won't replace actual practice but could give you the general idea.

Try a driving school.. Several offer classes on that very subject.

P.S. I didn't need no stinkin lessons. I figured if my ditzy friend Kathy could do it then so could I.

P.P.S. Kathy also admits she's ditzy, so no cruelty or name calling here. haha!

Best suggestion would be to pickup a cheap car and learn on that. I bought an 87 GTi before I knew manual and learned on that. It is really not that difficult, most people just don't want to be bothered and buy auto. Consider the ratio of Step/Manuals on the average BMW lot. Just my .02.

HAHA! LOL. I learned to drive a stick on my '87 GTi too! Wow, craziness. Got a '92 Corrado SLC after that car.

A Corrado G60 was my first MT car.

Man, I loved that thing, but it was a bit of a money pit. Had to put in a rebuilt supercharger (which was a PITA to find in the first place) and then had to have some valve/piston work done after the timing belt broke. Then I got sideswiped by a cop, the city took forever to pay out, and IMO ended up lowballing me. Found out my wheel was bent when I took it in for an alignment, probably from the accident, but I was pretty much SOL at that point. I was planning a backpacking trip to Europe at the time so I let the car sit for a couple of months and then had my brother sell it for me so I could extend my trip. The kid who bought her from me promptly blew the supercharger and tried to get his money back, to no avail.

But still, I sometimes pine for that car.

Anyway, sorry for the long meandering story, lol.

Ahh, the g-ladder. My friend had a G60, definately a love-hate relationship. The Corrado was a great car, almost picked up a SLC (the VR with an intake sounded amazing). Wish the new Scirocco would make it across the pond.

You and me both. To me, VW was a pretty cool brand with a definite enthusiast bent, but started to lose that in the late-90's early 00's. I mean, the GTI is cool and all, but I feel like their whole line up was more reliably cool in the 80's and early 90's. I think the new Scirocco recalls a lot of that past, but I guess there are financial and logistical problems involved with bringing it to the US. Anyway, now I'm pretty bored by VW's in general.

As an aside, I think the BMW "golden age" was right around the 1980's as well, so maybe I'm just biased towards that automotive era.

Couldn't agree more. The 80s were a good time for the enthusiast. Too much computer involvement with cars today. Would love to have an E30 or a Scirocco 16v in the stable (a 951 would be even better).

I bought a 135 to learn how to drive a stick. First time in a NA Spec stick shift car if when I's driving from the dealership back home thru downtown, 10E traffic!

I did have some experience driving a stick, but it's 10 odd years ago, and on the OTHER side of the road and shifting w/ your right hand.

the 135 has a lot of power, so stalling shouldn't be much of a problem, just press the gas paddle.

I have taught three of my lady friends how to drive manual transmission in my 135i. I no longer have my car.

Easiest car to learn in especially with the hill assist feature. Hills are no fun when everyone is riding your ass and you start rolling back at a stop sign while operating other MT cars.

I've heard they have manual cars you can rent. Try giving them a call and see if they have any available.
