Where are you group buying from? If you're shipping from overseas, it's better to get a set for yourself otherwise like SBC mentioned, you'll be copping customs and GST.
There's not much discount to be had in bulk buying tyres anyway. Also, it's going to be extremely difficult for everyone to agree on one brand of tyre

You want RFTs? I will GIVE you mine for free when I swap them out. Around 50% tread.

I was thinking a group buy (from the US) in a way of whatever tyres YOU want and ship individually (names and addys)...
What we want to do is put in a decent number of orders and get a group discount on each order. i dunno just putting out there... maybe it can work? see how the thread goes for a week.. i'm gonna get tyres regardless. Oh and thanks for keeping me informed with do's and maybe dont's (jeef, sbc) |

Keep in mind they take about 4-6 days to arrive from the US, which is blindingly fast. There's no need to order them months in advance

Yeah, i have my car going in on 10th, might get them installed then.. though i'm not 100%, would like to drive the RFT's into the ground before that! What a tight ass! hehe.
Jeef, i'm throwing up between the Z1 star specs, and the RE-11's, how do you find the star specs? They're a bit cheaper than the RE-11's, so might be my first choice at this stage. Cheers

janus77, I recommend leaving a bit of tread on the RFTs and putting them away for a rainy day. Since the car doesn't have a spare and spare sizing is a problem, if you do incur a puncture you're properly stuffed - as I was since I gave away my almost new RFTs. It can be a real problem, especially if you're 1er is your daily drive.
I now have an entire set of half worn tyres sitting around just for a such an occasion. |

+ 1 I've got the RE-11's and they're phenomenal. The exceed my driving abilities, that's for sure.
The Z1's are probably much better value because they slide in under 1k and won't attract extra fees though. Plus they score pretty solid reviews too. |

Don't wanna jack the thread but just out of interest what do you guys do about the possibility of a flat once you get rid of the run-flats?
I don't fancy the idea of carting a spare around in my boot... takes up too much space... - Harlequin |

I like the idea of runflats. Unfortunately the quality is still a bit behind that of a conventional tyre. I was running the Michelin PS2 RFTs for a bit and they were pretty good - FAR better than the stock Potenzas. But you can't help but wonder how much better the non-RFT version would be. Hopefully RFT technology improves, as I'm sure it will, then they will be a properly good invention.
