I personally just ripped that stuff off the front of the mirrors for the time being. The idea of driving around town sounding like a massive pan flute was too much for me to bear. |

I have no noise issue for my 335i coupe. It has to do with the piece for the mirror. If the installer wrapped the clear bra around the bottom and doesn't stick flushed to the bottom, there is the source for the whistle. check it out. |

Get the whole front end. Also, if you take it to a pro, they can use scraps to slap on the edges of your door. If you have a 1 car garage, this is pretty nice.

The installer I spoke to said you can apply wax/sealants/polish just like any other part of the car. It's OK to wash and so on, too.

You can wash/wax as normal. Avoid alcohol unless it is 3M brand (It is the only brand I know of that won't turn yellow).
If you wax, you might build up some wax along the edge. Remove with a Qtip, or simply wax up to the edge, but not in the edge. Not too hard. Highly recommend Clear guard. Anyone from chicagoland let me know, I can give you my installer's number. He's excellent. |

Whistling Mirror
I also now have whistling from the driver's mirror after clearbra installation (3M). The dealer is supposed to take a look at it and figure it out for me. I'm not going to be particularly happy if they tell me they can't fix it. For $900, they should be able to find out why one side whistles and the other doesn't. I'm not too interested in dabbing lubricant or peeling off the mirror cover (unless they refund me some portion of the cost).
Anyone hear anything else about reasons/fixes?

Look at your mirror and make sure the installer didn't cover any seams with the clearbra. If the clearbra itself was making the noise (as some have suggested) why would it be limited to the mirrors? With the amount of material on the bumper, hood, and fenders it would be deafening.
It HAS to be install related. |

Another confirmed whistler after the clearguard install. I read this post before hand and made sure to listen for a whistle. Only after the clearguard was installed did I have the whistle. I think it's in both mirrors too.
There appear to be two coverings installed per mirror assembly. The piece or "stalk" that holds the mirror off the car and the back of the mirror cover itself. I've not played around with it to find out where (exactly) it is coming from on which piece but will try to take pics when I do. Oh yeah, 500 for partial hood, lights, bumper, fender, mirrors @Ziebart. |

i wouldnt put clear bra on the car. it makes the paint fade unevenly. eventually, you will have two different shades of the same color on your car. my friend put it on his car, 99.95 percent clear, and two years later, there is an obviously different color under the area covered by the clear bra versus those that were not. 2007 MB clk
he had to repaint the car anyway. if your going to have to end up having to repaint the car anyway, screw the clear bra because its noticeable when on the car. my friends car is not the only one ive seen this happen on. |

Resolution to Whistle?
My driver's side mirror whistled after clearbra installation.
My CA put a call in to BMW and was told that it absolutely is NOT the mirror. 3M said it is NOT the film. So I'm in limbo, waiting to find out which company is going to solve the problem. In the meantime, the 3M installer gave me some scrap pieces of the clearbra to cut into a strip that I can apply to the bottom of the mirror. I placed it so it covers the small gap between the mirror cap (painted) and the main insert piece (black plastic, glass, etc.). That has stopped the whistling and isn't visible unless you look from underneath the mirror. Has anyone gotten anywhere with BMW or the clearbra installer such that the problem has been 100% resolved? It bugs the crap out of me to basically have to tape the bottom of the mirror up.

I was quoted a price in Pittsburgh for $350 for entire hood wrap + "partial bumper" or $600 for entire hood wrap + full front bumper.
Does anyone have an idea what a "partial" front bumper cover might include? I've looked online for pictures of various kits, and it seems that most of the pre-cut kits I've seen pics of online seem to cover the front bumper all the way to the wheel well. |
