Noob question!

I have looked up and down the forum on posts about e85 mixture for the n54. I want to know specifically what do I need to upgrade if I want to mix e85 to my tank with the stock fuel pump. And what mixture can I use with stock pump without causing serious damage to engine/turbos?

I have read tons of threads but each one seemed to spiral out of control and never answer the question.

On the stock LPFP, you'll wanna settle in the E30-E40 mix area. Here's a really good ethanol blend calculator, but it requires you know what concentration E85 you're using.

Obviously you're going to have to have a tune that has modified the fueling tables to make sure that your trims are where they need to be. An established COBB PROtuner should be able to make you a map pretty easily, just make sure you data log anytime you decided to run this tune.

The first time I tried E85 I aimed for an E35 mix and just used the Cobb E30 map and then log to make sure your car is happy with it. I measured my mix after the fact and found I missed my target and was only at E28. Logs stopped complaining at about E31.

Exactly how did you mix it? I'm probably over thinking it...

I've only done it twice now and I went to the pump and I figured 30% would be 4.2 gallons. So I put 4.2 gallons in according to the pump and filled the rest up with 93. Then I got a tester and now I'm going to fill a 55 gallon drum in my garage and measure it out with the tester for the summer.

If you're experiencing timing corrections and fuel trims are solid, it's probably a sign that the octane is too (not enough E85). Just keep adding E85 to eliminate the timing corrections, while making sure the fuel trims don't get into the 25+ area.

Careful with those drums. A problem with E85 is that if it's left stagnant in a non-airtight container, the fuel can start to separate and absorb water. Personally I have a 5 + 10 gallon container (which is basically enough for a full tank of straight E85) and only pick it up when I plan on using it within a week.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm pretty sure I'll blow through that drum in no time. I have a steel drum and it's pretty air tight. I work with chemicals and we get a chemical that made out of pine bark. Basically super concentrated pine sol. It has an extremely strong odor. When the drums are closed you can't smell it at all and it actually builds up pressure/vacuum depending on hot or cold. I have a drum wrench to make sure it's tight too.

haha, well if your adding one gallon of fuel. you want 30% of it to be E85. so .3 gallons of E85 and .7 gallons of 93 octane. haha.
