I think VO is pretty much the same color they used for the BMW M1 Hommage:

The more I see it the less I like it, not that it is not an awesome car. I am glad to stick with my 135i for a bit longer. BMW looks like it has some interesting things coming down the pike. I'll be a hold out.

I have a 2010 Lambo SV in a multi-coat metallic orange that is very close to Valencia Orange. All of the pictures here and from BMW show the same effect that my paint does. I can promise you that NONE of these pictures give a 100% accurate understanding of what this paint looks like in person and how the car looks like with this paint. Absent some very experienced and purpose-shot professional photography it is impossible to capture the color, the reflectiveness, the sheen and the body contours in photographs. The light bounces in strange ways, suggests body sculpting, and creates or loses creases in an unpredictable fashion. And this can happen within seconds simply by the observer moving around a stationary car, or with a few minutes of the sun shifting, etc. It seems to be a function of both the metallic nature and the orange color. Other metallic paints - BMW, Lamborghini, etc. - don't display this chameleon nature. The underlying material may also have a very slight effect on the reflective aspects of the paint. We can't explain that one ... My car photographs bright yellow in moderate to bright light. It photographs as dark, burnt orange in overcast light, and returns as near-red in dark daylight and dusk. Each of these aspects is not accurate as to its real appearance. So ... if anyone is making a final decision against it now, I'd say "don't." Not until you see an known-accurate sample or see it in person . One thing that can be said is that a conclusion drawn from photographs will almost certainly not be how you will perceive it in person. Getting tired of the color won't happen, BTW. It changes so much that you really can't get blase or used to it. It'll be great. Have faith. Last edited by hlmiii; 01-25-2011 at 12:17 PM.. |

I appreciate the overall lines and stance of the car in the real life pics on page 1. Leaving the functionality argument aside, the infamous "crease" behind the front wheel, looks like an unfinshed panelforming step, IMO.....Especially from the angle of most of those pics

hlmii... thank you for posting your experience with a VO-type of color on a daily basis. I got the same impression about the 1M in Detroit - body lines were accentuated and then faded away as I walked around the car. Digital cameras are having a very hard time accurately capturing this color but it is striking in person.

It is a pre production car. I saw it today in person, not fully complete vehicle.

I've been quiet in the VO threads because I haven't really been able to properly phrase my opinion of VO but My E90 put it nicely, it IS a very "striking" color and pics don't seem to do it justice.

What kind of racing cars does that 24h Daytona Rolex race feature anyway?
So it's just doing a one time pace lap before the start, right? |
