PeteA & tglazed > Have you calculated the cost on that? The math is pretty outrageous.
- Transmission has to be built (Level 10 for example) - $4,598 Note: That's the 700hp rating. Much more expensive if you're doing 700+ - Single Turbo (Motiv-750 for example) - $7999 ------------ I'm going to stop right there to keep it short. So far -- that's around $12.5k on key components. Not counting installation, not counting the LPFP upgrade, not counting the HPFP upgrade, not counting LSD, not counting tuning, etc. I'm missing a few items as well but, overall, you're looking at a $17-20k hit. Minder...that's with the transmission rated at 700whp -- so to an extent -- it's pretty much your ceiling (ROI). Some of Terry's (Burger Tuning) single turbo N54's are/have been in that whp range. Any higher...and it's really anyone's guess at this point. The platform is still pretty young. I don't know about you, but I can think of a million more productive ways to spend $20k. But even if I said f*** it...and decided to spend that money (again, being that the platform is still rather young), the uncertainty is a turn off. Enter 2JZ... Not much I can elaborate on. The platform has been ripped apart for about 25 years. It's proven. There's a clear/definitive road map to power -- depends what you want. I don't care what car you drive...or what you think you have under the hood -- when you see a Supra on the road -- you don't f*** with it. That's the only car that really puts some doubt in your head....and rightfully so. Anyways, for me...the combination makes sense. The math works out in terms of what I can sell/buy, etc. But more so...because I also have access to "THE" people who can pull it off properly. So...why not? |

IDK about you, but I get scurred by certain American Muscle
![]() A 2JZ swap would be pretty killer. Ultimately I don't think you'd be in a much better spot than with the 54 in your engine bay, but it would be cool as hell. Go for it!

135Pats > Really all depends if I can put the power down (whether its the 2J or 54). If it can, then the 2J has the scalability advantage -- at this present time.
Either way, one thing's for sure -- my pockets are definitely in a better spot. +1 on American muscle. Round here, that's become the norm. Everyone and their moma has swapped their snails for a 5.0, GT500, or Vette -- on bottle. Last car I ran with was a 99 Camaro w/NOS -- it was in the 600whp range. Last time I'll see tail-lights...I promise you this. Last edited by TUN3D; 04-19-2015 at 01:29 PM.. |

Don't get me wrong the 2jz will be legit and I understand what your saying with the platform but I would think (and you have probably done a lot more research then I have with dropping the 2jz in) that by the time all parts have been fabricated to fit the 135i cost would be about par with a built n54 and transmission.
Either way this car will be incredible! |

When I get get mine, I was thinking of doing a 5.0 coyote engine, massively cheaper than a m3 v8. And it's got plenty of power stock. I would love to see how this all works out.

tglazed > We haven't discovered too many fabrication points at this time. Just the normal stuff. Drive shaft will have to be modified/mated. Engine mounts are from an e46/2J kit, which have to be modified a bit -- but not fabricated from scratch. Thus far, I'd say no -- it's nowhere near a built N54/upgraded single turbo cost. You also have to take into account the offset of parts sold. While there is some expense, it's still under budget.

MDMA 135i > (F) 19x9.5 ET22 & (R) 19x11 ET26
In the front I run 265's -- no problem/no rubbing. If you're gonna use 11's in the rear (with this offset), you want to be at 295 for it to look right. Unfortunately for me, I rub using 295's. Had to go down to 275's...about 10mm. That said (again, if you're using the same exact wheel size), do the math and get the offset to be 10mm less. Meaning, the wheel has to come in 10mm... |

135i to 1M conversion
Hi, Read this article with great interest. I have a 2009 135i which i would like to modify, Will the part #'s you gave in this article be good for my 2009 modifications? as you did not mention you year of the car you modified.
Can you give an approx cost for the components used? Regards. |

britishgent > My car was an '09. So yes, N54 I'm 150% in terms of the parts listed. N55, body -- yes, but not sure of the mechanical components/differences in certain things like the vent-lines, etc.
Costs...I can't give, and I'm a little reluctant to do so. My prices (or anyone's prices for that matter), will not help you. The best advice/practice is to grab the part numbers listed, and run them thru your local dealer and/or online sources. Part prices change all the time, so whatever I got it for last year, could have gone up or down. I also got huge discounts, etc. Bodywork is the same thing. What I paid is not what you're going to pay (could be less, could be more). So that's the gist, take all the information and price it out so you get the most accurate figure. |
