135i Air Intake - cool setup - poss GB
Hi all,
I am looking into getting one of these intakes: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13532 Link is to the GB and I have posted for a price to the UK. Setup shows some good gains, but I am waiting to see a dyno. Still, as the setup looks good, as long as it sounds impressive I think I will be going for it. Will post the price on here when I find out. May be able to get a UK shipping price to one destination.

I pm'd the guy and I'm now part of the GB.
$360 plus $67 shipping - 5 days Express and insured. Making it around £230. I have a plan to reduce customs costs - pm me for details. It's by far the best looking air intake setup that I have seen - want to hear it! Will probably sell my BMS for £65.

Thing is, how easy are they to fit? can a complete novice like me do it or should someone more experienced get involved?

Complete novice.
I installed the BMS one and I am useless at this sort of thing, but they did provide a great install video on You Tube. The AFE one is easy to install as it uses some of the same parts as the stock setup - no cutting etc, so very easy to revert back to stock. Got your pm - will send one back, register on the official GB thread and then we can mail the guy and see if he will reduce the delivery costs based on one location - not sure if he will do it, but worth asking.

If you goto the link that I posted (not the E90 link) and then register your interest the guy will pm you, then you need to:
Group Buy Update and procedure: Payments are nonrefundable once made. Those on the list please PM us your full name, address, email, and phone number and we`ll send the request for payment via Paypal Invoice/Money Request. CA residence will have a different link with CA sales tax added. You will be able to view the price of the intake with FREE shipping to the 48 States. If you reside outside of US, a link with freight specific to your country of residence will be PM to you. Update(8-6-2008): The intake kits are being assembled from AFE. Filling the orders will be in batches, first on the list first to ship(after confirming payment of course). We can't promise anyone a time frame since speaking with AFE resulted in no ETA today, but they are working on them as fast as they can. We will update everyone here daily. Payment is expected within 72 hours starting mid night(pacific time) Sunday, August 10th or we will assume you forfeit your spot on the list and the AFE intake kit will go the the next person on the list. In addition, the GB price will no longer be valid after mid night(pacific time) August 13th. Update(8-7-2008): For those who PM the contact info and received the payment link, but couldn't get it to work, please PM us again. For some reason E90post crops our link and the page will not display properly. Everyone, We need your info, please refer to the above "Group Buy update and procedure". Product price and payment will be provided after we receive your info. Again, if you weren't following this thread, AFE is assembling these kits as fast as they can, the best ETA I can say is between 1-2 weeks. I am going to pm my details today and see what happens. moff

They will not ship together to one UK address. Looks like will have to order separately.

Mine has just arrived from the US, had to pay an additional £40 for HM Revenue & Customs.
If I get an hour over the weekend I will fit these too after the never ending oil change saga!

I lost track of the price a bit, somewhere around £260 in total.

A complete novice like me took over 2 hours to do the install. Took me about an hour to decipher the instructions. I would say the hardest part of the install was to unscrew the back clamp on the air intake. You can only just see the screw and getting a screwdriver to it is no easy task.
Once this was diconnected there are 3 rubber grips attaching the battery cables which are attached to the old airt intake box. These need lifting off and can be a bit tricky to get at. Once this was out the new tray was put in and the dual tube , both were a doddle. Air filters take about 10 mins after this. The back air intake clamp needed a good tighten which due to it being very difficult to get at, took me about 30 mins to fully tighten it. After this took the car for a spin to make sure all sounded as expected. Nice whooshing sound at around 3000 revs, got loads of tirespin as it was pouring with rain all day. Cannot tell of any performance gains on wet roads, will do another test when it's dry. Here's the pics as proimised. Essco

The intake looks great. Pity some claim that it actually causes a drop in power over the stock box. See thread below

I guess the only thing left to do it put this on the Dyno. Results may be a bit hard to judge as I have the Superchip in mine.
For the moment I will drive about and see if I can actually feel the difference.

Is the superchip a ecu reflash or a piggyback?
Appears to be expensive, especially once converted to Australian Dollars |
