odd sound

okay so i picked up my car yesterday and tonight i was driving to dinner with the radio off and i noticed a low honking sound coming from the car. Its not the radio, and i cannot hear it outside the car or under the hood. What the hell is it its driving me nuts...!... Its intermittent about every half a sec for about 3 sec long. My gf even noticed it. Should i take the car in?

Joe

i think it is the idrive hard drive spinning. Its only audible with the radio off waiting at a stoplight.

Are you talking about the chirping noise that happens for a few seconds when you first start the car up? If so, I don't think anyone's figured out exactly what it is, but it's common.

Might be this but I doubt it -- the hourly chime. It's a 3 or 4 beep notification that can be turned off in iDrive.

not the hourly chime. I think it is either the hard drive or the fan . It actually sounds like a fan and i turned off the ac and i could still here it so i am assuming it is the idrive fan or hard drive or a combination of both.

Sounds like you might have a faulty alternator, sometimes they make a low sound like that.
