My 2007 Acura TL Type-S was scratched all down the side at work when it was 4 months old. So Bimmers aren't the only cars that get vandalized.

My neighbor stopped by yesterday in his 07 Z4M and asked me if I was considering the 1. He said he saw them everywhere in Europe. He loves the 1 even though he has 100x the cash I have.

American cars are getting much better. BMW makes a great fit and finish car, but I don't think they are as good electrically as jap cars and some american cars. But BMW reliability is getting better.
Sure they drive great(so I hear) but they scare me as far as problems goes.

My first PT Cruiser got keyed. But it was on Halloween so I assume it was some punk kids playing a Halloween "prank". Luckily it wasn't deep and I was able to get it buffed out for about $85 rather then having to repaint the whole side of the car.

NO, I was parked way in the back. It was not in anybodys way. I paid for the $1200 out of my pocket, I didn't want to pay the $500 deductable then have my insurance rates go up also.

yeah my ex got a lexus rx400 and it got keyed like 1 week after she got it...

I've only gotten compliments so far on my 128i. Another guy at my job was pissed (but good naturedly so) because he ordered one also but I got mine first.

People think it's cool. A friend of mine has a 335i and couldn't wait to take a ride in my 1.

I'm waiting for the car that has a camera that will video anyone trying to key, break into or otherwise screw with your car. Mainly so I could find and castrate the bitch.

It is just a car and eventually it is going to be dinged, scratched and generally messed up. That is why you get insurance. We are not talking about Ferraris or something exotic/extremely expensive to fix.

As for the jealousy? Eh. The car is not universally loved. That is why I am on the fence, i am not sure that I can live with the look and truncated interior.

I also want to be able to track it regularly and the limp mode and overheating issues are somethign I am wary of. Regardless of how fast the car is from stop light to stop light if it is incapable of turning many laps without going into limp mode the car is a non-option. I am going to wait at least until some people have gone thru a season trying to fix the issue before I buy a 1.

A friend of mine is getting an '09 SLK 300 after our deployment. When he heard I was getting a BMW he started hating on it. Started talking smack to other people when I wasn't around to defend myself. Another friend, the good kind, tells him the 135i will crush him. So he says he'll get an SLK 350 instead. WTF? Why the competition? He knows nothing about cars. Just buys what he thinks will get him laid. A quick poll amongst the troops said they thought the SLK was for old folks while the 135i was for the younger crowd. We're both 43. He didn't take that well at all. :biggrin:
