New closed Intake for BMW 135i - ASR / BRracing

Ok, the next step that we have done in the ongoing build for our Project 135i, and that you have also seen on the JB post about his car (in the photo and video section), is the intake.

We have been working with, and waiting for, a true complete CAI and close intake system. There have been many posts about the various other approaches, but none has achieved the complete design required, and delivered the performance they should.

Until now...
ASR built intake for the BMW 135i w special build by BRracing, available from us. (ASR's closed CAI intake systems are well known, check out their intake for the E60 M5, which we have also installed in other customer cars)

We are working w ASR to come up with a new pricing model to provide some additional price points and options, but the kit is a complete kit right now....
- intake box (alum), completely close, w clear or smoked lense
- 2 stainless steel air filters
- charge pipe
- 2 new larger intake scoops that mount in OEM location (alum)
- TIAL BOV (capable of supporting motors in excess of 600HP).
- CNC mounts, intake air filter mounts
- Works with an OEM solution, or can be mated to work w other FMICs and hard lines (we have the Evolution Racewerks Intercooler on our own car, vs JB is running completely stock or OEM).

This kit fits right in, has mounts for the AC line, brake vacuum line, fits to the standard intake, also can come in custom powder coated colors (just like the BRracing harness bar...we want the look to be completely OEM). You can also request different top covers (clear lexan, smoked lexan, solid, clear w vinyl, etc)

No question on the difference. NO....do not have dyno numbers on doing just the intake (we keep doing too many things together), but I can absolutely tell you this makes a big difference. We even tested with and without the larger front scoops at the track, and the larger front scoops really make a difference with this intake. No sound difference, other than from the BOV (which sounds really nice...and we had another customer w the AA BOV version at our shop this past week, and of course, we like the TIAL version more).

Will post pricing soon...but we can sell today (price today is $1,500 for complete kit, in any powder coated color), but hope to bring the price down by simplifying the kit a little, and optmizing the kit (drive out some costs), and will release in multiple forms (complete kit, or without charge pipe and BOV) and kits that can be upgraded a piece at a time.

We further customized out intake install by wrapping the intake system in the std racing gold FOIL...to further reject heat from the engine compartment.

PM us if interested or call us at the shop - (408-356-1515)

So how is this better than the $129 solution BMS offfers? Does paying over 10x as much give me 10x the horsepower?

Not to be silly...but are you serious w the question?
The whole issue is an open filter in the engine bay is no intake at all. It does nothing to address the fundamentals of what is required for an intake, and does nothing to solve the current issues w the OEM intake, nor provide the performance advantages.

The new intake is a completely "closed" intake system versus an open filter type. The intake, by being closed, and integrating the two intake pipes as well, provides for a true CAI environment. With the scoops, and at speed, the intake goes from a negative pressure to a positive pressure, which is impossible w systems that are open or just filters.

Finally...yes, all horsepower gains require true design...and yes, we have tested all the others, and this is worth 10x the price of an open filter implementation.

Intake is made of alum, including the CNC'd flanges and tubing. As other CAI designs have proven, the material of the intake has not had a material affect on the CAI element of the intake. The design material is also a function of cost.

Can you please explain the physics behind this closed CAI implementation vs a regular open CAI? I think you are creating some pressure somewhere in the chambers ?

Impressive. You could save some cost by having a non-acrylic/see through top, you probably don't need the gold over carbon fibre heat shielding on the right/non engine side though excluding it might compromise some sort of aesthetic you're shooting for.

Is the box double walled insulated type or a solid material? Also, how much of a pain in the ass is that thing to install? It looks pretty felonious.

although pricey, you are actually purchasing more than just an "intake". At least the kit comes with a charge pipe and BOV.

This

1Addicts is kinda tired of overpriced non-performing products, hence the healthy dose of cynicism.
