Need info on removing the speed limiter on a 2013 135i

Hi I'm new to the forums sorry for bringing this up I know I have seen this question asked before but I can't find any info that is recent. A few months ago I purched a 2013 135i DCT. I love the car the problem is I live in Germany and have been doing a lot of driving on the autobahn and found out my top speed is limited to 130 mph even though I have the sport rims and tires (how it came from the dealer). I have just started to put some bolt ons into the car and plan to do more in the near future. I would like to use this car for having fun at nurburing as well as weekend driver but with the top speed being so low I feel like being on the track with a 130mph top speed would take away from the straights as I already hit top speed on the autobahn very quickly and then people want to pass me and I have to slow down to get in the other lane. So my question is what are my options for the 2013 to remove or at least raise the top speed because I know the ecu for the late 2012 and 2013 are difficult to work with. Thank you for any help and sorry for the long post

The only way it can be done is if you find someone that can flash your ECU and to do that, you would have to remove it from your car unless they have come out with a way to flash it on the car. JB4 will not remove your speed limiter either. Is your 1 an M-sport (261 wheels)

Where are you in Germany??? I'm up in Stuttgart.

I'm in vilseck. I meant to say 18 inch with the sport tires. I contacted mhd they said it would be a little bit till they get the tune for the later 2012 and 2013 models. Have you heard anything about the new PROcede software being able to remove the speed limiter? I checked out the website and it says it will take it off for the N55 but I don't know if it will work for my year. I sent them a email so I guess we will see.

Procede has been out of the N54/N55 market for quite some time now and they moved to other platforms after not being able to keep up against the JB4. The JB4 for the N54 used to do it but because it is harder for the N55 ECU to crack and connect to, no one really knows what wires are the ones you have to tap to for the speed delimit. And the location of the ECU on the N55 makes it even more difficult.

I would wait fro MHD if I were you. That is what I run on my N54 135i.

I have a jb4 already I wonder how the MHD will work with that
.I think in the mean time I'm going to call the dealership and see if I can get it raised to 155 since that's how it's supposed to be anyway

130!?

That's no fun. Weird that your car is lower than what I would expect.

Dackelone

The raised top speed came with option code S840. That was only done when the additional oil cooler was installed. In North America that came standard on the 135i, not sure about Germany.

Could always install the Dinan tune which will remove the top speed limiter completely.

Yes, and he knows all about this shit, and just happens to live in Germany. Maybe he knows the answer why OP's car does not have the higher top speed.

Not true. Its only standard on the m-sport equipped 135i. My non-sport 135i has the 135mph speed limit (also cannot flash ppk due to the lack of the additional oil cooler).

Arrow Option #840 Speed Synchronization...

MightyMouseTech

For US Spec cars...

Option #840 came as part of the full M-sport option ZMP(sport seats, steering wheel, alcantara roof(interior) and sport alloy wheels

Or... as part of the Sport Seat option ZSP...

ZMP option code: $1,300 (Miltary Sales price, in 2009) (can not be ordered with ZSP!) which includes

2MR 18" double spoke wheels #261M
337 M-sport pack, door strips in M, shifter & hand brake all M
481 Sport seats
710 M-sport steering wheel
760 Shadowline trim
775 Anthracite headliner (black)
840 Increased top speed limiter

the "other" sport option is this one: ZSP

ZSP Sport option $1,100 (mil price)

481 Sport seats
710 M-sport steering wheel
760 Shadowline trim
840 Increased top speed limiter

See my post #3 here in this thread...

Difference between "sport package" and "M sport package"?
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=362052

You can check your VIN here for what options your car actually HAS....

(English)
http://bimmer.work/

(German - last seven digits of your VIN)
http://www.bmwarchiv.de/vin/

As for oil coolers or not... I think option #840 is linked to these two spart packages: ZMP & ZSP.

I also know that first year production 135i verts did not come with an oil cooler(passenger side wheel well). All US spec 135i's had oil coolers are standard equipment(just not first year Verts, later they got the oil cooler too). THAT wasn't the case with early production 335i's in 2007 & 2008 model years - just fyi.

As for your PPK flash... some late model N55's can be flashed - up to a certain build date. That's because someone uploaded the PPK for those builds to the interwebs and its out there now.

Also for shits and giggle... check out this posting of mine...
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...1&postcount=26

When I drive fast on the Autobahn... I mean faster than say 260 kph.... my foot stays FLAT on the gas pedal so long... that the vacuum reservoir runs out of reserves and my AC vents default to the defrost(safety mode)air flow position. That is what it is like to have an Autobahn in your back yard! In the states you are lucky to hit triple digits for a few fleeting seconds. Not over here. And when I drive at super fast speeds... I can empty my fuel tank in as little as 200 kilometers - all 53 liters!!!

Some of my V-MAX runs at night driving North on the A9 from Munich to Nuremberg...

and this video when I first got my engine tuned - driving South of Stuttgart on the A81 towards Switzerland....

OK, this is actually what I thought. I did not think the oil cooler came with all of them. But SEVERAL people on this forum told me they have the oil cooler without any kind of sport package. I guess I was right after all?!? So, oil cooler (and high speed syncro) ONLY came with cars with the either sport package. Maybe I am wrong. Don't know. Very easy to check, just open the hood and look.

To the OP, do you have the oil cooler installed on your car? If not, then I would suggest installing some kind of oil cooler before increasing your top speed.

Nope. My dealer wont even ppk flash my car since it doesn't have the #840 option per VIN check.

He was not talking about at the dealer. The PPK flash is floating around the web. Take a look.

PPK SW - Bootleg version...

Try another dealer. I've never heard that a PPK requires option #840. When you look on Getbmwparts.com there is no restrictions. Just a SW key code for N55 and N54 engines.

But what I was referring too - is that for the N55, the PPK flash tune is out there on the interwebs(ie Bootleg version) - as a free download. Some coding guys are also are offering the PPK. But its only for certain build dates on the N55 platform and only on e-series cars(e82/e9x).

Yep. But I am not sure IF this is true for Canadian spec cars. I think the first two years - did not come with oil coolers. I could be wrong, but I remember there was something weird about Canadian specs being different from US car specs.

So long story short I contacted my bmw dealer and they said the only way they would be able to do it is if I buy a new ecu have them put a new flash on it and have them install it. By the time it would be all said and done it would cost about $2500. The only way I have found would be to have a custom flash done locally or wait for the MHD to come out. I have contacted MHD but that is still months out for the year of my car. I would like to get the ess flash but I can't be with out my car for the two weeks it would take to send my ecu back state side. So my only real choice at this point is to have a shop that's about 3 hours from my house do a ecu flash tune for me. Should I have them do a tune and use it with my jb4 so I can use the jb4 for boost control, e85 and data logging or just ditch the jb4 all together?

No need to get your panties in a bunch there Jr. Was not aware if you knew if the OP's car was US specs or not.

I've known Dackelone now for over 6 years and I know he can answer the question with no problems.

Have a good day.
