Picked up a Alcantara hand brake boot from ecs...
Working on getting a Alcantara boot for my shifter(auto)...
And Alcantara steering wheel(I have a mint 135i M steering wheel sitting in a box that I would like to get wrapped, hopefully the wrap keeps it mint while still looking good itself, double duty!)

Update:
Just spoke with Mike...
Seems like if I Alcantara my steering wheel then it will be sanded down and glued...
So steering wheel is out for now!

I'm driving around with an acrylic back window. It works, and because it weights almost nothing compared to glass it's not going anywhere. But it looks like shit.

I just can't justify $3k on a new roof.
I'm going to see what I can find out from a dealer....right. Does anyone on here know any friendly dealer techs that might know ? I found a sort of how to but it doesn't mention anything about tension of the mechanism....link here.

There's always our resident BMW tech MightyMouseTech. Maybe he'll read this and chime in.

Yeah, I found the same article. You have to assume the installation is just the reverse of removal.

But, there's some specialized equipment you'll need to replicate:

And maybe this?:

... the only thing you really want to confirm first is that two roofs are always identical... there isn't some 'individual assembly' thing that means your new roof is going to miss its latch by 1/2 an inch.

Got in my front lip. Going to wait on installing until I have some more of the carbon pieces in. The lower splitter is also going to be wrapped green. I also got in this little plastic trim stuff that wedges in between panels to create an oem looking accent. I'm doing alcantara with orange stitching for a bunch if stuff so I thought this would fit in nicely.

Thanks! That was the goal. I think it will tie in nicely with the orange stitching for alcantara parts and the seats I have planned

Gave the 1 a wash yesterday and made sure to clean the top well. Applied some of Griots convertible protectant today at lunch. I like this stuff because any over spray is a simple wipe down.

Thanks and it definitely needs a clean up. As soon as my hand heals I will be cleaning it till it is fresh off the factory line again!

Those special lifting tools always make me chuckle. The roof weighs less than 100 pounds and can be lifted off by two people, one on each side of the car.
Just don't drop it.....

Anyway. The E6000 glue, that someone mentioned in one of the threads on the window separation issue, came in on Wednesday. I scraped off the really shitty job I did with the 3M VHB tape last year that was now failing, cleaned the area as well as I could and glued it using the E6000. Clamping it was an issue due to the curvature of the glass but I was able to get a decent amount of force to spread along the seam of glass and fabric. The hard part was forcing the glass into the right place in the fabric without it moving.....a basketball on the rear shelf worked very well LOL while the glue dried overnight. Anyway, so far it's held for two days....I'm actually amazed that it worked. A couple of spots need to be re-done but for the most part...success.....so far. It doesn't look great but it can be tidied up in a few weeks when I know for sure if it worked or not.
Only real downside, I dropped a clamp on my trunk lid and put a small chip in the clearcoat. Dumbass.

E6000 glue. Amazon for about $8 or I believe they sell it at Hobby Lobby.

Unfortunately none before or during the fix, I was a bit preoccupied with hoping it would actually work. I'll take some later.

Went to the dark side the other day lol. Well, my parents did.

We picked up a 2009 Mercedes Benz CLK350 Grand Edition convertible.

We were focusing on BMW but took a look at plenty of other brands. Searched high and low for a decently priced auto E46 ZHP convertible, couldn't really find one. Either too expensive, or in poor shape, too far, etc. etc. Parents weren't crazy about paying 10k+ for a 15 year old car. E93s didn't make us too excited, and my dad felt a 1 series is too small. Also not trying to have V8 issues (640i/650i)

Dad liked the idea of a Mercedes so we looked at the CLKs. The first half of them have a timing chain sprocket issue so we avoided that (08-09 is safe) and found a car that checked all the boxes.

3.5L V6, 7spd auto, has 52k mi on it!

Grand edition has AMG wheels, sport suspension, different cluster, few other things
White exterior, Tobacco Brown leather interior. Bluetooth & nav factory (not sure how well it works..)

Nice. One of my friends has pretty much the same car and thoroughly loves it. He's had it since new I think, and never any major issues.

I was looking at these as well before finding my 128, so bugged him quite a bit about it and what he thought of it.
