Mixed emotions on this; pricing seems high at first, but when you take a step back, it's about right when compared to the rest of the BMW line up.

$58075 - $3913 = $54162 This is the ED price of an M3 Sedan Without ANY options at all, none, nothing. So how many are going to order an M3 without any options at all?

Add anything like Competition Package $2500
DCT $2900
Convenience Package $2900
Etc.

It's easy to see just how quickly an M3 get very expensive compared to a loaded 1M
You calculated ED MSRP. You can do significantly better than that on an M3 nowadays.

Well, you can forget all that. The new car is fitted with a turbocharged straight six. Turbocharging? In an M car? That’s like putting gravy on an ice cream.

$12K is not a trivial amount. Don't forget add'l. sales tax and gas guzzler.

Compare it with a fully specced 135

I know it's expensive, but how much is the difference between the 1M and a fully specced 135?

With the same options, it appears that a 135i is about $8K cheaper.

+1 wouldn't ED Invoice be also lower than non-ED, hence making it irrelevant for the dealer from a profit perspective to sell ED or not? Are we missing something?

Some people around here are really dreaming about what they can get an 1M or M3 for. There are a many of M3's hanging around on dealer's lots, but these cars have lots of options on them. Even with $5k or $6k off you are talking about the high $60k range. I also suspect that discounts on an ordered M3 will not be that great as the dealers want to move out what they have.

Want a deeply discounted car, get a Dodge Charger. After you drive one you will know why Chrysler went bust.

$8k for all you get with this car makes it a bargain for sure (real M car or not)...

I'd do premium and heated seats.

Not sure if power seats are available as standalone, but if so, power seats, heated seats and ipod.

You don't have to convince me, I've got one on order

I've seen someone list the upgrades over the 135i, but I'll give it a shot:
  • Wider body/aero kit
  • M3 Competition 19" wheels, non run-flat tires
  • Alcantara trim
  • Limited Slip Differential
  • More HP/torque
  • M3 aluminum suspension
  • M3 brakes
  • Upgraded flywheel/6MT (?)
  • Lighter weight
  • M Dynamic Mode

Not bad for $8K...

I'm talking ED invoice. What you find on BMW site under ED is MSRP price. Invoice is much lover than that. Trust me i did few ED cars.

54k is really 58-59k out the door.

I will get more enjoyment out of an used GTR or save myself wad of dough getting a M coupe.

Cmon people it's a BMW and a M! If it was gonna be 35k anyone could drive one----no one drives a bimmer for practicality, it's one of the best cars that will be made in our generation. If your worried about 2-3k more for a 50k+ car you shouldn't be buying it. Get a 06-07 m3 for 1/2 price 32-38k if you are counting pennies because all these new cars (even bmws) will lose 1/4 their value as soon as you press the start button. Did anyone really think a 1m was gonna be a poor mans m?

The high price is for exclusivity and being unique, not options/specs only

I payed more for my used 118D hatch than US pays for a fully loaded 1M from new.

Just a little sad I must say...
