GAUGING INTEREST FOR: lip

Anyone interested in a lip?

It will be made out of FRP.

I currently have one on my car (pictured).

I am in the process of acquiring the mold. If that falls through, I will be making a mold out of mine.

Wanting to give access to anyone here first, before posting it up on eBay and Amazon.

First batches will be FRP. I can start experimenting later with CF overlay, full CF, then if justifiable PU lips.

Update 06/01/2016:
Good news! The mold looks good and I will be purchasing it.

I'd like to really know who's interested in the lip!

The replica lip shown on my car is a two layer FRP spec. I will be following the same specs for this first run.

I will be sanding the lips and putting on a simple black primer.

This will be made to order.

After I buy the mold, I will start buying the supplies needed (fiber mat, fiber cloth, resin, PVA, wax, etc..).

Lets get a group buy going! I'll look at the rules for group buys for this forum and update here again! Please PM or post a comment if you're more than very interested.

Pricing not available yet. Guesstimating range is $200 + shipping as the highest.

How does it mount to the front bumper? Do you have to drill new holes or does it go far back enough to use existing bolts?

Fiberglass reinforced plastic. I may just use a 3-layer system of fiber fabric-fiber mat-fiber fabric.

There will already be pre-marked indents where you could drill whatever sized hole you'd like.

The original SLeK is $1200!

I plan to make these affordable enough.

It all depends on materials and demand...

Estimate right now is at $200 + Shipping.
so you are undercutting someones pricing by making your rip offs in a cheaper material and negating the design R&D?

This. It's an obvious copy.

If he wanted to he could easily modify the mold a bit to produce a different product. Though admittedly I'm not sure how much would be necessary to circumvent the design copyright.

One cm shorter/longer in one location would be considered a different product and would hold up in court as it would not be breaking copyright or patent laws.

I'd double check this op, but if true, you're basically in the clear. Have fun.

Likely be considered a "derivative work".

Well then this is definitely derivative.

Thinking about 2 layer FRP, 1 CF overlay.
