The top street/drag cars at Drag Times are all pretty much DCI. Stock can get you into the high 11's with an N54.

I've had them on my car for the past few months. Like everybody else said, it's pretty much just extra sound. Didn't notice a performance difference according to the butt dyno. But for $100, I don't expect crazy performance out of them either

You won't notice any gains unless you are FBO and psuhing 400whp

An actual heat soak test.
http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showpo...70&postcount=1 Most dynos I've seen show no gain except maybe a couple of HP after 5k RPM. Some also show losing a couple of HP up until 5k RPM. As a few have said, you really only get sound and looks out of it unless you are heavily modified. I think they sound amazing and are worth buying just for that. |

I've had BMS DCI's before, they suck hot air mostly and I absolutely felt some power loss, or rather, power gained when I put the stock airbox back in. |

The injen intake looks great, but there is tons of debate on the shape of it.
Bends and curves cause restrictions in air flow which may/may not offset the cold air benefit. No definitive proof that it's any better than other Intakes. Same with AFE. |

The Injen intake is furthest away from the engine, and therefor it can conceivably pull in cooler than a BMW DCI as a result. In addition, the kit includes a ram air type scoop that fees air from the front grille directly to the air filters, providing even more cooler air at speed. It's a damn good system, and has proven results. And, the butt dyno agrees. Last edited by n54door; 04-03-2015 at 10:55 AM.. |

I don't think you are feeling power loss with the DCI. I think you just lose some tq on the low end. I have noticed this when putting larger aftermarket intakes on cars, you get more top end power, but loose the pickup off the line. You really feel the difference with an intake when you have supporting modes. I think some cyba scoops would help a lot to get back some that low end pickup.

I assume that video discusses the 'cold air' argument of the intake benefits? The power increase in the dyno figure is mostly a result of having a less restrictive setup, not colder air.
Cold air is circumstantial, and not a static gain. It will vary car to car, place to place, brand to brand, etc.. I don't think you'd find too many people who'd argue against that. |

The 1st video tests multiple DCIs on 2 different cars, turbo and NA. The 2nd video (the one I linked) tests on a 3rd car and tries a few different scenarios with CAI - standard setup, headlight removed, and then the CAI outside the car directly in front of a fan blowing cool air. The MAX gain from any run was less than 2% peak HP, and most of the DCI and CAI runs lost power compared to stock Found it on this thread - http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1035421 |

They also monitor the temp of the air outside the engine bay, inside the engine bay, and then after the turbos. The air after the turbos was always the exact same no matter what intake/air box was on the cars.

One thing that was not mentioned about the DCI is that the engine bay gets really dirty without the stock intake box. I really like some of AFE's expensive systems that have a filter in a box that connects to the front like the OEM airbox.
On stock cars, there is little to no power difference. However, once you increase boost significantly and make much more power, a bottleneck in the OEM airbox is exposed and is removed by the DCI, resulting in a small power increase. If you buy the DCI, buy it for the ability to clean them and reuse, or for the sound. Don't buy them expecting a perceptible performance increase.
