A surprising revelation about steering and my new recommended setting

In the three years I've owned my M, after testing all settings it's spent 90%+ of the time in Sport+, with Sport suspension and steering. But, for the last two weeks I drove a BMW 330 loaner ( ), and when I got my car back it felt a bit...ponderous.

Don't get me wrong, it's an F83 so it actually IS a bit ponderous. But the 330 felt light and quick, so I decided to switch my Steering to Comfort. Better! You don't get any additional steering feel from Sport or Plus, and the quick feel makes the car feel more agile. Psychosomatic of course, but still fun.

What's everyone's general preference?

Cheers

I usually drive in comfort steering. Like you said, there's no extra feel, just extra weight.

LOL - did a mod just change my title for grammatical eloquence??

Original title was something like "A surprising recommendation"

MOD: This Post was moves here by another mod by mistake, and he doesn't have admin rights to move it out of this one. It's an F83 comment.

I really like switching between hydraulic and electric steering. I just press the "E/H" button located under my steering wheel and tap it 3 times to access the secret "sport" function.

I would use the sawzall technique, you get support heavy manual steering with a few quick swipes on some rubber hoses...

Sorry OP, were having fun with this...

I actually have a quick release on my accessory belt - so I can switch between manual and hydraulic steering.

I usually have to have a friend hand crank the AC and alternator though - don't wanna get caught in the Florida heat without AC!

I'm a big fan of a quick release. Afterwards it automatically enables comfort mode. As long as the weighting and turn in isn't too heavy of course.

Same here. Big fan. I love the "pop!" that happens right after! So pure and raw.

I prefer to use Hydraulic Steering on Corner Entry, Switch to Electrical mid corner, then back to hydraulic on exit. This especially helps with fatigue on those long sweepers.
