Charge Pipe and BOV question

Hey guys,

So I installed a VRSF charge pipe with a TialQ BOV today. My car is completely stock otherwise. I planned to tune MHD stage 1 after installing the charge pipe.

After it was all said and done I drove the car and there's no blow off until about 6.5k RPMs. There's also no turbo flutter as if the excess air is being pushed back into the turbos.

Can I try tuning the car/upping the boost to see if the blow off opens sooner? Or do I need to buy a lighter spring? The BOV is red, not sure if that determines what spring is used in it etc. Thanks.

of note: I broke the plastic nipple on the intake manifold off during install. I epoxied it back on and made sure not to block the line. Not sure if this has anything to do with it.

Update: Problem resolved after tune. It now blows off at the appropriate rev range. I'll leave this thread up in case anybody else experiences a similar issue.

What spring did you order? If you're on stock boost and installed a heavy spring, it might just not be opening because it's never seeing a boost value to make it open.

Thanks guys, but as you can see from my original update it's all good after the tune.

Just curious if you enlarged your intake manifold fitting and using a 4MM vac line as they are required for the tial to operate normally.

I used whatever tubing they sent in the package, which I'm assuming is smaller than 4mm, havn't had any problems though, no flutter, etc.

I have the XS Bov. It came an extra spring, 14.5 psi. My bov is half opened at idle with the preinstalled spring, which I read is 4.5 psi. Should I install the extra spring? My car has the mhd stage 2 tune. I was also reading, it is the vacuum that determines what spring to use?

Thanks,
B Lei

Tial requires a 4MM line and the stock bulkhead fitting on the intake manifold is smaller then 4MM.

You should upgrade it for optimum performance. Most people who don't think they have a problem, realize the BOV is far more responsive and better at blowing off once the lines are upgraded.

There are various threads about this on the forums, mainly E90Post.
