I think you should always stick to 98RON..and always check tyre pressure if you're concerned about fuel consumption as 98RON should always offer best performance and fuel consumption on our bimmers :P

I had my 135i in for service recently and my BMW service manager said that they have been experiencing some problems with bad fuel from Caltex Vortex leading to some HPFP and injector issues. He said use BP 98RON. I always used Vortex with race fuel without any issues.

My tuner works of Caltex as a senior petrochemical engineer, and even he is of the firm advice that BP has one of the best refined fuels on the market, and is consistently closest to 98 octane. Caltex fuels repeatedly fail to come close to the 98 octane mark and density, which for a good part leads to poorer fuel economy
