The whole point of the 1M was small, lightweight, drivers car. I previously had a m6 fully loaded and wouldn't have it any other way but it was an M6 not a 1M.

No one is right but nacho knows his sh*t and a car such as the 1M is more sought after as a stripper version all day long. When it was new they mainly got spec'd up by amateurs not understanding the true essence of the project.
Well said. I agree. Mine was spec'd and ordered by my dealer before I bought it, with all options. I would have gone completely base model if I had the opportunity to spec it myself.

I'm going to agree with Nachob on this one!

While I have a fully loaded 1M, I'd prefer a stripper.

Totally makes sense with the ethos of this car

I had a PPI done on this car and it look like it was beat up by the single owner- sun fade, crap paint, and original tires.

well done and good for sharing with others.

still a good buy for someone who can fix those things...

Still laughing at the peeps who think these cars don't sell because of Nav. Utter nonsense...

They sell with Nav or not for sure!

I'm saying some prefer the stripper version of this car as well...and I totally get that.

There is something for everyone I suppose.

Happy New Year 🎉

Maybe.

When I went shopping for one, I was looking for a clean, well taken care of 135i. No navigation was a must. I did end up with the 1M, but no navigation was also at the top of the list.

To many it may not matter, but to me, I figure I spend the majority of my car time actually sitting in it and looking at the steering wheel/cluster/dash (where the nav resides) and having to look at the monstrosity on the dash was a deal breaker for me.

We don't all like same things, but that's OK, to each their own.

Wow. You guys do get testy. I've owned two non-NAV 1M's and two fully optioned (all VO). My original purchase 1M (new) was a stripper, heated seats and that was it, as was the second. The current two I own are fully optioned.

I have noticed no difference in performance due to "extra weight" of the electric seats and NAV screen between the cars, however, now that I think about it a bit more, the NAV delete and manual seat versions are a bit more to my liking as the dash is clean and the seat sits lower (I'm 6'3"). Plus less stuff to break.

But let's get back to the issue of performance with the extra weight of the loaded models. Several ways to combat: 1) don't fill the gas tank all the way, 2) Lose weight, 3)Drive downhill. I always drive on the downside of the curve of the earth to gain that extra gravity assist and the big one, 4) Leave that heavy watch and bottle of water in the garage.

Following these suggestions will put you miles if not light days ahead of your 1M friends with whom you drive and race against every day.

To be more scientific, Godzilla-1 and Nacho, who knows his S*** can help everyone gain a final position on the performance issue.

If you will both fill you cars with water, just to the top of the door sills mind you, then measure the exact volume (make sure you tape the air vents with a quality duct tape) to the teaspoon. The difference is the volume of air, that the electric seats and NAV screen occupy. Godzilla-1 must then remove his drivers seat and NAV screen, and weigh them. We know how much air weighs, so simple subtraction gives us the difference. Now it's a simple physics problem on acceleration.

My feel, based on my Aerospace Engineering degree and study, is that a squashed gnat on the hood would most likely have a greater impact on acceleration (0-60) and drag than the extra weight of the seats and NAV screen.

The analysis of course, discounts the push of photons against the car as we can assume equal force on both models.

The 1M community hate...why? We’re a small family. I liken the internal “stripper” crowd to the external community that is the M2/M2C crowd who provides unsolicited comments of self-justification and superiority. Drive what you like and what appeals to you. Good points ^^, and if you can objectively feel 30lbs+ that is not unsprung weight/rotational mass, then it’s you as a human being that might actually be superior...that’s damn impressive. 1M isn’t all that light in any configuration, just relative to bloated M products of that time...I say that as an E90 owner too! A drive in my 28xx lb 2011 Boxster Spyder gives you another perspective. Interestingly, in that small community, I don’t see people trashing each other for adding a 28lb air conditioning system or a 10lb stereo and ruining their car’s “ethos”. We love driving a brilliant car not many know about or understand....sounds familiar.

Off thread warning, as i do not believe the below answers the TS question.

Stripper minority elaborated: off 86 currently listed 1Ms (excluding 3 fake listings) on the pan European Autoscout24 website, 3 sellers have ”GrundAustattung” (~stripper) in the title, and 20 list some reference to “Navi. Key insight: 73% of sellers is projecting that neither option will be a key selling factor.

It's exactly that dude, self-justification.

I don't think the strippers here are arguing about weight. The ethos as they claim is inline with a very basic car; steering wheel, minimal button bs (long press and go), 3 pedals and that's it.

If we're talking weight, please seek help...
1M has a steel crashbar, E9x has carbon, in addition to carbon roof, aluminium bonnet, FRP fenders.

Everything has its price. As for the car's external or interior appearance, the seller doesn't care or he just isn't trying very hard to get rid of it. The buyer can use it to his advantage in his negotiations.

Like any car, it should be checked out by a mechanic for major problems unless it's a rare collectible car like a MB 300 SL Gullwing, if you have the money grab it at any price!

I don't consider the 1M all that special and doubt it'll appreciate in coming years. Its current lofty price is mostly the due to speculation. It's like a hot stock that later tanks.

BYW, does it have a Doug Score? LOL

Wow. Lively conversation.

One more stripper lover and owner here. Have been very open about my fetish in many other threads. Would never want anything but a stripper in a 1M or similar minimalist sports car. As gmx said, its ethos and not the belief that the reduced weight helps me smash eggs in the trunk more easily on the drive home from the supermarket.

Iím not saying anything about which variant will be worth more, simply that there are people out there like nachob and myself.

As always, peace.

I buy way too many cars, but in my experience many sports cars can be ruined badly by options. The 1M has no real options, so they are all strippers in comparison to other models. Nav and electric seats, that is it..... the car is very basic/simple.

BMW, rightly made the 1M free from dealer error.

I tried to buy a Carrera T with no options there were like 2 in the entire country, because Porsche allowed dealers to load them up with horrible, heavy options that added cost and weight. 18way seats, PDK, sunroof, full leather dash, FAL, Rear wheel steering, etc...

Thank you. I never said that stripper is worth more. I thought the OP was a dealer and listed my opinion of several things. My mistake thinking it was a dealer to state that in the case of the 1M fully loaded is not necessarily the optimal configuration because of low numbers and some people like me that were offered great deals to buy a loaded or NAV unit with manual seats and I passed on them. Dealers were shocked that I didn't want the higher power seats, I Drive and NAV. Just as when I go to a dealer and asked if I could buy an RS3 in manual and they tell me if I'm on a budget I can buy a cheaper car. I was offered a lease on one of the special cars with manual seats and NAV and passed on it. Since my car has no NAV and I attend a lot of car meets I have been approached by many stating that they also were looking for a NO NAV car. Usually for manual seats and less weight. But MR Tr"10"ll jumps on and says that loaded cars are ALWAYS more valuable and that I was spreading mistruths. Even though I paid more for a ZHP without automatic and without leather seats because I wanted the bespoke Alcántara interior. So if the community here feels that loaded cars are better than so be it. I think in the case of the 1M it's not as relevant because the stripper has some things some people want and appreciate especially the lower seating position and cleaner old school cockpit. Peace to all.

Oddly enough, I was just reading some of the comments today in a recent BAT auction of a 997 GT3, and some were talking about how they preferred the “no wart” dashboard of the car being sold, which means it doesn’t have the sport chrono option. One guy said of the car, “Its a little over market imo, but if one wants a non-wart low option car…”

It’s hard to say whether it really affects value or not, but I find it interesting either way.

Why are people calling it Nav. It is iDrive. I don't think anyone uses it for Nav anymore. And put me in the camp of those who would not buy unless it had iDrive.
