Strange wear on brake pads

These pads are off my 128i and have about 6-7K miles on them. This is the case on both driver and passenger sides.

What would cause that lip on the outside edge? Rotors too small? Pads too large? Pads not sitting properly in the caliper?

Both the rotors and pads were specified for the 128. However, I see that the diameter of the rotors is 11.80 inches/290.80 mm while all the other rotors that come up for the 128 are 11.81 inches/300.00 mm. So, I may have to ditch these rotors after only a few thousand miles.

I would not be concerned about it. they may develop a lip that will break off every now and then but it's not a safety concern of any sort. Next time you do a brake job you can worry about getting pads/rotors that line up better.
