Removing scuff marks caused by Cat
Well my 325i was of 2 weeks old so I did the Zaino thing, 4 coats of Z-2.
I put my baby in the garage to rest. My wife let the cat in the garage. The cat climbs on the car and scuffs up the hood. It looks like someone dragged a piece of fine steel wool in about 6 1" x 2" spots on the hood. I can just picture the cat slipping all over the place on the hood. (please lets not turn this into a shoot the cat thread by the cat haters out there) Well the hood looks bad in the floruecent lights. The wife felt quite guilty. Its not bad in the sunlight. I put on 4 coats of Z-5 , the scuff marks are not as bad now but still noticeable in the garage. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do to get rid of the marks? More Z-5 or something else ? Thanks - Ken |

Scuf Pics
I tried taking some pics. Ignore the reflection of the bikes and stuff hanging from the ceiling in the garage.
I tried to get a good shot of one of the scuff marks. It looks like 3 lines right above the reflection of the floruescent light |

I have the same marks on my hood, except 10 times worse. Got the PC, just waiting to get out there and give it a shot.

Response from Zaino
I asked Sal at Zaino what to do, the following is his response. I will try the by hand method first since I do not have a PC.
- Ken With deeper swirls and fine scratches sometimes the use of an abrasive product like Zaino Z-PC is necessary.. Although, I don't make a habit of using an abrasive product on todays clear coated finishes. Sometime you don't have choice. I would try Zaino Z-PC (paint cleanser) by hand, using very light pressure. This should do the trick. Be careful when doing this and only do the water spot areas, as the Z-PC is abrasive and will remove paint material. Don't forget to reapply Z-5 or Z-2 as the Z-PC will remove any polish. If you opt to go with the Zaino Z-PC... see following tips... Zaino Z-PC (paint cleanser) use By hand: Simply apply a small amount (about the size of a quarter) to a cotton diaper or piece of cotton towel and rub back and forth into about a 1' X 1' section using light to medium pressure until it starts to dry out. Then take a second towel and lightly rub back and forth until the polish residue disappears and the gloss comes up. If there are still some swirls visible you can repeat this step until they are minimal. I prefer using a less aggressive product a couple times instead of using a more aggressive product once. After you are done you can immediately apply ZFX enabled Z-5 or Z-2. \ For MACHINE use: Can be used by random orbital or (for experienced users) rotary. Select a moderate speed (RO - 4.5; Rotary - 1200rpm) and an appropriate cutting or polishing pad. Apply Zaino Z-PC Fusion to the buffer pad in a "star" pattern. Start machine slowly to reduce sling. Work a small (2' x 2') area with moderate pressure until satisfied with results. Buff the area clean with a soft, lint-free, non-marring towel. If satisfied with the results, proceed to next section. If more buffing is required, repeat either step 2 or 3. Problem areas like door handles (where keys often scratch) may require a few applications for best results. When done, apply either: Zaino ZFX enabled Z-2 Pro, Z-3, or Z-5 to the surface for a long lasting, great looking shine that will lock-in the results of your work with Zaino Z-PC Fusion. Tip: If more "bite" is desired, you can mist a slight amount of clean water (from a spray bottle) while using Z-PC Fusion. The water will interfere with the buffers that encapsulate the abrasives and will produce a slightly stronger result. Water can also be used to minimize dusting when using a machine buffer (random orbital or rotary). |

Has anyone used Scratch-X from Meguiars? I have some scratches on my driver's side from the auto carwash. (I know, but I don't always have the time to hand wash) I bought this Meguiars stuff, and I've applied it a few times, they are mostly gone, but I want them completely gone.

I had the SAME THING from my g/f's cat. Simple answer - Get some Zaino ZPC and with a thick cloth rub that all over the areas that are scratched. Let it dry, remove, wipe down carefully, then Z-5, Z-2, and your good as new!

simple solution. back over cat
... then again maybe not. You'd spend an afternoon picking the fur out of wheels... seriously though, I've tried using Scratch X for my scratches. I got mixed results. Then again, I tried it by hand. Has anyone used it with the PC? |

Tastes like chicken! (j/k - no offense intended)
I like the ZPC by hand method Sal recommended. If that didn't do it I'd break out the PC. From the looks of the pix I agree - looks like no big problem. Good luck and let us know. |

Well Z-PC did the trick, used as directed by hand. Rubbed out the scratches and thew on another 2 coats of Z2 and it looks all shiny and new again

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20417 I just made it look "sepia" because I had trouble getting the contrasting right for one of the frames in the stitching of the photos.

I can picture it, you had the car waxed really well before your wife let the cat into the garage. The cat probably got on the hood and started slipping (dur to the slick wax) so she uses her claws to get some friction going so she can sleep on the warm hood...My rock ships is more noticible than your scuff marks from your cat.

Is using ZPC the same thing as Meguiars polish? Or is ZPC more abrasive? And if they are different, when is a good time to apply either?
