Jack point insert?

Hi Folks,

I just did my second oil change on my 128i. I don't think the little wood blocks I made to fit inside the plastic jack points (for the jack stands to rest on) will hold up for the next one. Are there any readily available aluminum blocks (or something) out there? I did search but all I came up with are the ones that have the round thing at the bottom to fit a hydraulic jack.

Thanks, and cheers!

I got an eBay one similar to this for less than $5 and it does the trick. Shipping takes a while though.

It sounds like the OP is looking for square inserts to use with jack stands, but I just wanted to put this out there.

I am looking for just the rectangular inserts. The wood blocks I made worked fine, but they deform every time. I could make some out of harder wood, but I thought I'd see what other options there are.

Thanks everyone!

Cheers!

I've been using the same wood inserts for a while with zero issues. Yes I shake the hell out of it before getting under.

Another option. I'll guarantee they won't move (much) when fully laden.

Compatible with you favorite Zamboni.

So question, why are these needed? My stands have square heads that marry right up to the jack point rubber. My jack round head cups them just fine. What am I missing?

We really got into the topic of jacking up these cars a few years ago (way too much, actually)... see http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=214304

You have the wrong jackstands, you need these: https://www.amazon.com/ESCO-10498-Ja.../dp/B0019JVIPM (I have four and they are by far the best I have ever owned).

Just to clarify, I have a low-profile jack with hockey puck for lifting the car at the front center lift point under the engine. I was looking for a more permanent insert for the plastic jack mounts on the side of the car. That plastic had to be shaped like that for a reason, right? My jack stands cradle the wood inserts perfectly (but they have compressed somewhat, hence the search).
Guess it's time to read the thread posted by Mr. Fabulous!

Cheers!

This is the jack stand I use too and I never had issues with needing any adapter. My jack also has a circular contact pad area and again, there's no issues with needing an adapter with that either.

Guys. 3/4" plywood does the trick. All you need is a 4x4 piece.

Thanks. Those look nice, but my Torin T43004*already fully support the jack pads on their flat top, stable and no damage to the pads. Highly recommend them.

I used 3/4 Baltic birch plywood scraps and they are holding up well.
