Questions about drilling/tapping the intake manifold for proper BOV operation!
Hey guys, I was over on e90post and stumbled upon a DIY for tapping a 1/4 NPT fitting onto the intake manifold to allow a larger diameter for proper operation of a BOV.
I have a ER charge pipe/Tial BOV on order and should be arriving soon. Have any of you done this to your intake manifold? Could I just use a larger inside diameter hose than OEM? Thoughts?

Just curious, what benefit is there to be had?
Also, if I were to install something like this for BOV operation, I'd probably put a check valve in place. The continuous change in manifold pressure would likely work the vacuum line loose unless you used pressurized line that could withstand some movement. At that point, I'd be concerned with the quality of the seal against this barbed brass nipple and the likelihood of it cracking over time as opposed to silicon.

Hey man, I have a ER CP and Tial BOV. No issues with the standard setup. Every car is different, but the vast majority of them are fine on the 1/8" stock intake nipple.
If you get BOV flutter that can't be resolved with the right spring, then you'll need to tap the manifold with the 1/4" nipple. I was worried about this too, but asked Terry(BMS) directly, and he was right. Hope this helps.

Is the BOV nipple 1/4" or 1/8" - mine looks like it's 1/4" so I can't just connect to the 1/8 on the manifold. Is there a reducer ? Any ideas ? I'd rather not drill the manifold unless I get flutter. Thanks.

I wouldn't drill into the manifold because its plastic and unnecessary. Correct me if I'm wrong but the the OEM DV valves on the N54 are two 1/8th inch, so weather there are two separate 1/8 sources or it it splits and 1/8 + 1/8= 1/4 so you will be fine. As stated above u can get a reducer or they sell the banjo fitting on the tial in different sizes. Remember the tial is originally made for high horse power so just change the banjo fitting and select the correct spring for ur boost application and Enjoy buddy!!!

I think the two 1/8 diverters go to one 1/8 nipple on the manifold which seems weird to me. easy connection, just doesn't seem to add up with my math. Anyway, I'll try to find a way to convert the 1/4 banjo to my 1/8 vacuum line. If I get flutter I guess I'll be drilling....
