Looking at getting a 135 in the near future, this thread is priceless. Although my biggest decision still remains whether to go N54 or N55.

Is there any interior differences from 2008-2012?

Wrap-up of this thread so far:
Engine
- 2008 - 2010 models have the twin turbo N54 engine
- 2011 models have the twinscroll (single) turbo N55 engine
Both are rated at 300hp/300tq and have similar performance. Stock vs Stock, the N55 has a slightly louder rumble. Especially on cold starts.

N54
- Twin Turbo setup
- Easier to get more power from pnp tunes
- HPFP Issue, check the numerous threads and sticky in General Discussion. Warranty for N54 engine HPFP has been extended to 10 years or 100,000 miles.

N55
- TwinScroll single Turbo
- Pnp tunes in testing, but not quite as much gains as N54 tune
- So far no confirmed reports of HPFP issue
- Supposedly reaches peak torque at ~200 less RPM than N54

Sport / M-Sport
- 2008-2011 models had the M-Sport option which included sport package + M Sport style 261M wheels, M door sills, and Anthracite (black) headliner.

Transmission
- 2008-2010 had the option of Steptronic or 6MT
- 2011 128i maintains Step or 6MT
- 2011 135i has the option of Dual Clutch transmission or 6MT
- 2011 128i Steptronic paddles are right side up and left side downshift instead of previous method of push for up and pull for down

Mirrors
- 2008-2009 have smaller mirrors
- 2010-2011 have larger mirrors

Colors
- 2008 model year was the only year to offer Sparkling Graphite Metallic
- 2009-2011 introduces Le Mans Blue Metallic available only with the M-Sport Package
- 2008-2009 offered Monaco Blue
- 2010-2011 Deep Sea Blue replaced Monaco Blue

Value Package
- 2011 models have the Value Package option which includes leather interior and i-Pod connectivity at no cost

2009-2011 models had the M-Sport option which included sport package + M Sport style 261M wheels, M door sills, and Anthracite (black) headliner.
and Increased top speed limiter and Shadowline exterior trim and M shift knob and M hand brake handle, and the M Steering wheel if you didn't order the Cold Weather Package.
Yes, M-Sport includes everything the Sport package has and adds the headliner, M door sills, and M Wheels. You can still get the Sport package alone for 2009-11 models but M Sport was/is only a $200 addition.
Some owners with '10/'11 models have retrofitted the smaller '08/'09 mirrors on their cars.

This means that a 2011 135i could have the m steering wheel, m shifter and m door sill along with 264( none m)wheels?
YES, I have seen this.

Model Year 2010 1 Series Equipment Changes (all models)
1. • Option 653, HD Radio, is now standard equipment on all 1 series models
2. • Option 5AC, Automatic High Beams, is now available for $250
3. • The standard Hi-Fi Sound System, option 676, has been removed. 663 Radio BMW Professional is the standard sound system. Premium Hi-Fi option 677 remains available.
4. • New metallic paint color Deep Sea Blue replaces Monaco Blue.
Model Year 2010 128i Equipment Changes
1. A new 16’’ standard wheel 2K9, style 360, replaces wheel 2KN, style 255, on the 128i Convertible only.
2. Moonroof has been removed from the standard profile of the 128i Coupe only and is now included in the Premium Package ($4,100) or as single option 403 for $1,050.
3. Stereo options were different between the years, as well.

2008:
Base Stereo - 10 speakers and external amp; this was the mid-level stereo upgrade in the rest of the world and is known as Hi-Fi)
Harmon Kardon - upgraded Base Stereo speakers and amp with H/K parts (known as Top Hi-Fi)

2009:
Base Stereo - 8 speakers and head unit amplification (actual base stereo available in the rest of the world)
Harmon Kardon - 10 H/K speakers and external amp (Top Hi-Fi)

2010-2012:
Same as 2008 cars

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!
My 2009 Base Stereo has 10 speakers. The 2010 has 8. The 2011 and newer went back to 10.

Alarm pre-wiring only thru Feb 2009 build date.

*We are missing the iDrive differences throughout the years.
*I would also like to update this through MY '13

VIN lookup says my 2008 has M-Sport Suspension (but not the M-Sport Package). How do I verify I have M-Sport Suspension? Bought the car used a while ago and never realized this.

The 135i comes with the sport suspension as standard equipment, even when not equipped with the sport or M-sport packages.

Sport suspension, which is no different than "M-Sport" suspension, right? Sorry just making sure!

The 135 has the sport suspension and the "m-sport package" doesn't change anything about the suspension. On the 2008 135s, there was no m-sport package, just the sport package, which was all cosmetic stuff, nothing mechanically different.

So, essentially every 135 has the same suspension no matter what...at least from the factory.

True, however the MSport pkg (at least in 2012) included a 10mm drop to the body.

So the only way to get any sort of OEM drop would be 2012+ M-Sport springs? Any other available e82 springs would be identical to my non-sport 2008 135?

The only 1er that ever came with a mechanical LSD was the 1M. Every other 1er comes with an electronic LSD.

Was checking out some old material on the BMW Canada website and noticed an LED 'eyebrow' (accent light) on the headlights, and LED taillights with a different design than on my 2011 135. I believe this was the 2013 MY.

I thought I remembered from back when I was shopping for mine that around 2011 or 2012, they changes the suspension from a linear to a progressive spring rate of vice versa - anybody confirm or deny?

I think 2010 only had 6 speakers, mine doesn't have tweeters on the doors. Also starting in 2010 the cubby was standard under the center stack instead of the flip up door with the cig lighter. At some point(maybe 2010) they also added the heated seat controls to the climate controls so the bottom panel on the center stack is blank.

I went from a 2008 135i to a 2011 135i and didn't feel any difference in the springs, even though BMW reported using different springs in the rear for the 2011+ 135s. Weird.

Also, the BMW Performance suspension lowers the car 10mm and is 34% stiffer so there is some benefit to having it, even on the 2011+ 135s.

not sure if it was mentioned, but here is important information on warranties to common failure parts:

-the 2010 (and 2010 year only) 135i n54 has a recall on the fuel injectors and you can get index 12 injectors for free from the dealer. (if you have an n54, you will need new injectors at some point. not if, but when. index 12's can be well over 1k from a dealer and installed so this is a significant warranty)
-the turbo warranty for n54 is 8 years or 82K miles, so some 2010's have time left in that warranty
-the HPFP warranty is 10k years or 120K miles. So you wont have to deal with that for a while if you get a later model car

So there were no changes from 11 to 13? Why is 2012 and 2013 not listed? Also 2013 included the is trim in the US. Not sure if there were other region specific trims.

Canada has something similar to the 2013 US only 135is. Can't remember what it's called or the exact equipment. Maybe MightyMouseTech can fill us in since he has one of these special edition Canadian 135i cars.

It was the 2013 "M Sport Edition". Could be spec'd exactly the same as the IS. I got it with the same black leather with blue stitching and interior trim and the 313 wheels.

It left Germany built exactly the same as the IS, you can't tell them apart if you run the VIN through a decoder.

Then just added the PPK2 and PE exhaust myself.

Edit: there was actually one difference with the Canadian cars. We got the black line tail lights, while the IS did not.
