Doesn't seem like times have changed. Audi's still plagued by understeer.

There's just something off about the guy. He's not entertaining to listen to or watch. Now, Vicki Butler-Henderson, that's a person that's easy to listen to and watch.

Also, I think Top Gear has found the right balance between reviews/showcases and pure entertainment. Mr. Clarkson would never consider the 1M coupe a hatchback...

On the outside but the interior looks like a VW. I just don't like it.

Why compare the 1M to the S3 and not the TTRS? The S3 is a larger hatchback....of course the 1M will win. Perhaps not against the TTRS

Because Audi's response to the 1M was actually the RS3. Similar power, similar production number, and it was actually announced right after the 1M was announced.

Also, the 1M has already been compared to the TTRS and has outperformed it in certain areas search is your friend.

No surprise BMW cleaned house.

That car tears up the track and the streets. Sick ride

Theres a blue TTRS that parks in the same building as me. Guy traded (or lease ended) his TTS. I doubt I would've noticed a difference at first glance had the colour changed. It just doesn't look special to me.

I have yet to see a 1M in the flesh, but based on reviews alone I would take that over both the TTRS and the S3. I wish I was at a different point in my life that I could actually afford a 1M, but being in school still kind of hampers that.

no argument there. I should have been more specific, Tiff is a better driver than clarkson.

Lovin' my "little one" more every day. Shame it's winter up here at Santa land, so she'll have to take a beauty sleep until spring.
I just wish I could drive it like Mark Higgins does or Tiff for that matter

Mark (with a sour expression on his face ): "Yeah!"

For that reason I love british car shows.

RS3.

Same engine as the TT RS.

Comparisons have already been done against the TT RS. EVO did a 4-way comparison of the 1M, Cayman R, TT-RS and 370Z.

The TT-RS came in dead last on track and road.

Bedford autodrome track times (top speed):

Cayman R - 125.5 (106.8 mph)
1M - 1.25.9 (106.4 mph)
370Z - 1.27.1 (104 mph)
TT RS - 1.27.3 (107.0 mph)

Final conclusion:

1M - 5 stars
Cayman R - 5 Stars
370Z - 4.5 Stars
TT RS - 4 Stars

EVO picked the 1M as the winner for "setting a new benchmark for only-car, multi-purpose, real-life ability and desirability".

I've owned both Audis and BMWs and love both marques. The only times Audi's commercial 'S' & 'RS' divisions have come close to BMW's 'M' division were the B5 S4 and the B7 RS4. Every other 'S' and 'RS' car has been a 'close-but-no-cigar'.
