Smile Charge pipe fitment issue (hello from new onwer)

Hi everyone, very happy to join you guys here.

I recently bought my dream car 1M in Alpine White at 49k kilometers. I am extremely happy because this has been my dream car for many years, and the car met all my expectations.

I have found one issue with the charge pipe that my car currently has, which looks like its from cobb (I can not be sure, the ex owner installed this). The charge pipe has some fitment issue and its rubbing against a cooling hose.

Rubbing mark on the charge pipe

I have tried reinstall the charge pipe and made sure its installed correctly, sadly there is still no enough space. I did some research and find out that 335 and 135 with n54 does not have this cooling hose so they would have no fitment issue.

My question is : Does any one else have this issue in their 1m? and if I switch to a vrsf charge pipe, will it solve this issue?

Sorry in advance if my english dont make sense.

My ER chargepipe directed the rear diverted valve toward the shock tower and it rubbed there. I put some adhesive padding on the shock tower to protect it. I recently replaced it recently with the Burger chargepipe, and the fit is perfect. Hope that helps.

CarJunkie,

My ER chargepipe did the same exact thing. One of my diverter valves is slightly damaged where it kept running into a bolt protruding from the shock tower. I also had a number of boost issues where the chargepipe met with the throttle body until I changed my O-ring out to a slightly thicker one from mcmaster-carr (1mm thicker if memory serves).

If I ever end up getting a new charge pipe, I'll consider the burger motorsports one!

Congrats on the car Songchen! I love the 1M.

Hi, I'm sorry that I don't have any advice for you directly related to your CP rubbing problems. There are some very handy members here and hopefully you'll get some help soon.

I wanted to quickly comment on 2 things:
1) Congratulations from another very happy AW owner. I hope you have many happy years of ownership.
2) Your English is perfectly understandable. Don't be shy about posting.

YouŽll run into this problem with most chargepipes on the 1M. Only solution would be a different metal bracket (the one on the right hand side where the coolant hose is pressed against).

We had a bunch of these made like 2 years ago, but there are none left unfornutately. Maybe you can modify the metal bracket or have it modified.

Yup. I believe most of them were developed for 3-series N54 cars and then assumed to work for any N54 car. The shock tower and everything routed past it is much closer to the CP in a 1series. All they really needed to do was move the rear DV bungs about 1cm inboard.

Had the same issue with the DV location on my ER and changed to another ER chargepipe but with the BOV. If your car is stock line mine, you will hardly even notice the difference in sound if you are worried it might be too loud.
