I had to replace my wheel @ around 20-30k. At that point the alcantara was really coming apart.

I'm considering purchasing the performance wheel as well, but will look into swapping the alcantara for leather.

For gripping the wheel, it kinda sucks how the LCD sticks out but not sure how much this would bother me until I see/test it in person.

hmm, maybe pre treating the alcantara with water proofing leather protector would help?

I love this wheel and the lights look amazing but I have to say I am a bigger fan of the old inlaid LCD of V1 versus the V2 with the screen parts sticking out.... Its like they went forwards in some aspects and backwards in others lol.

Isnt it also another $400 for the transponder?

Question Install hours/cost @ dealership?

I like it a lot, the weakness in this, is the plastic trim on top (held by 4 screws)
over time, right on top of the screen, it cracked because there is so little material and the fact that sometimes you hold it there sometimes.
so be carefull
Install hours/cost @ dealership?

How much was the install for you guys that paid. I am thinking of doing it myself but I would rather pay a few hundred to have the dealership reset the airbags, etc. Wouldn't want any electrical gremlins to be blamed on my install, especially since the car is under warranty.

I didn't end up getting the electronic PSW v2, the guy I was getting it off of local had DCT with two holes on the side of the wheel. Anyway, called into local dealer, they quoted 400 ish plus tax for 3 hours labour. :/ pretty steep I'd say.

My exact thinking, I am generally a DIY guy but in this case for warranty reasons I'd like them to do it (imaging one of the LEDs goes off a few months ltr, they can deny warranty, or at least try, based on own install).

In the instructions, per BMW, it states 1.5 hrs, so one should be able to hold them to it, no?

You can probably install the wheel itself, but there is some programming to do by the dealer. The contact ring behind the wheel also have to be replaced, it comes in the kit. I did not pay for install, it was part of the deal when they delivered my car; it actually took 3 hours, it was the first one they did

I could even see 3hrs being required but the 2 dealerships I got quotes from were saying 4 and even 5 hours for install. Even though the PDF states 1.5hrs. I guess they can charge whatever they want even though BMW states differently.

So the dealership I bought(MSRP) the 1M from quoted me 2hrs for install after I used the above as reference. Great dealership! Seems reasonable, thought I would share the info for anyone getting the PW V2 wheel installed at their dealership.

Not sure if it matters - but my Dealership only charged me ONE HOUR to install (and program) my V1 steering wheel in my 1M.. Now granted this was in conjunction with the initial 1200 mile "break-in" fluids replacement.

So use the PDF.. Make them comply with their own instructions.

I have 85 K miles on my car and on the wheel. The alcantara barely shows wear, but I am careful (no &#127828 and I have cleaned it (windex & a towel and brush) 3 or 4 times. Love the thickness and sometimes the gauges are useful and the Christmas tree is fun.

My car has the V2 wheel. After five years and 90,000+ miles, my Alcantara looks fine. Just clean it regularly with Windex and a towel. Oh and avoid the Cheetos.
The plastic display has been a bigger issue. You have to be careful if you are bigger, as I am or if you carry things clipped to pants pockets, as I do.
