Wanted to add that I think the CF looks especially good with your Carbon Black paint.

I'm inclined to agree that it looks great without the extra latches, even flush mount expensive units. Then I watched the guys hood latch fail on Jalopnik this morning and. well... yeah, hood latches aren't so bad...

Jesus yeah that's scary... I've already purchased the latches and will definitely be installing them. Just a matter of either me doing it or bringing it to the shop, depends on their pricing. I got the AeroCatch low profile latches

As for the clear coat, it's got a pretty good reputation but I'll be wrapping it in clear PPF and also putting heat shielding on the inside to be safe.

Thanks guys, I'll definitely be posting pictures when it's all done. I'm very eager to see how the CF looks, I typically prefer a more OE look but it's just so cooollll lol

Yeah, I agree about an OE look (check out my car) but that CF hood has some edginess to it. It looks purposeful. I like it!

I'm totally all for the OE look, all day long, but....

CF hood with clear on a 135 and you become more about functionality over form- proper tool for the job and all that.

If you're all about slow speed daily driver then you can probably skip the latches. Don't get me wrong- I'm both old and a daily driver who is commuting to work in rush hour, so I get small shots of WOT to feel like I still have balls attached...

But, if you're going to hit a track, or triple digit speeds on the highway even randomly, do the latches. Otherwise we'll laugh at you when you post about your spiffy hood trashing your windshield...

Pick a path
own the path...

I'm old, and slow, but I'm a badass to 85 mph gawd damnit, and am too lazy to drive hours to autocross and don't have a good road course near me.

how about you?

It will make people wonder what lurks beneath that badass hood. You know, "she's my little deuce coupe, you don't know what I got." lol

Will also go nicely with your 1M replica bumper.

I hear you guys! I do think it looks good as-is. As for the latches I'm not willing to take the risk. I definitely hit triple-digits enough to worry, especially on my monthly drives to NJ lol. Other than that though I rarely get above 60mph, my commute to work is 8 miles in the DC area, no such thing as highways here

Haha yeah I'll have to do more power mods to justify the appearance. I'm definitely hoping it will look nice with the 1M rep front!!

For those interested in parts off this car, here's a list of what I'll be getting back (this will change as the repair progresses):
  • Old bumper cover (quite damaged)
  • Cracked LEFT headlight housing (no modules/bulbs incl. Gray_Panther has dibs)
  • RIGHT kidney grille (sport style - gloss black)
  • Stock chrome kidney grilles (both)
  • Headlight washer caps (both)
  • AC Condenser (damaged)
  • Radiator (good shape)

I've made a sale thread here for prices (minimal, some free just cover shipping): http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...1#post21517541

Almost done! Transferring this to my build thread since it's become more about modding at this point. Will update the first post here with final costs and details for future readers.

Carbon black looks really good in daytime. I think paint match the carbon fiber hood will make the car looks more clean and associated.

I agree but I'm going to hold off on this since it's not a reversible decision. The shop told me I can come back whenever and have it painted at the same rate for the repair (basically peanuts, around $200). Really want to be sure on the style I choose.
