Awesome! I've been wanting a 128i without a moonroof (don't like / never use 'em!). Euro delivery in 2010 is starting to look mighty tempting...

Looks like they have also added Automatic highbeams for $250. Not that i need that.

It also makes Premium pack on the 128 literally insane at 4100.

We should start a petition to make Bluetooth standard in the US for safety. They can still charge more for their Assist stuff.

maybe the price would have gone up 650 with the moonroof left in, in which case they really did deduct 1050 for the moonroof delete.

I think studies have shown that hands free/bluetooth doesn't do a thing for safety. It's just a convenience feature.

Well, not really. It's illegal to talk on a phone without it in many states, including mine. Bluetooth isn't really a convenience feature for me... it's a necessity.

Gotta love marketing - Now $400 less (does not include moon roof)
Moon roof option $1000

So doing the math.. to get the same base car as 09 you're paying $600 MORE!
thanks BMW.

Maybe they should have dropped the price $1000 and take the moon roof out.

That may be, but even if it's a legal issue, it still doesn't do much for safety.

Granted the safest thing is not talk on the phone at all, I still feel it is safer to use bluetooth. It is no more distracing than talking to someone in the passenger seat & I can keep my hands on the wheel for better reaction time if need be.

This.

It definitely improves driver safety. Not as safe as not talking at all but certainly better than juggling a handset.

Plus it leaves both hands free for texting (JK of course) - something I'm seeing almost every day now - texting while driving. How insane is that?

I don't agree, but this probably isn't worth arguing about extensively. I don't think the headset makes a big difference- once it's on, it's on. The risk doesn't come from something sitting on your ear, it comes from thinking about things that aren't driving. Mythbusters (not scientific, but they have legit studies too) even did a thing on this- as soon as you force someone to think about something and respond, reaction times plummet regardless of where the hands are.

I myself got bluetooth for my car, but I'm under no illusions and I plan to use it on occasion but I won't get into involved conversations. It's a convenience feature that adds perceived safety but not the real thing.

Just playing devil's advocate as I really don't give a sh!t, but I think that you'd have a hard time proving that having 2 hands free vs one hand free, regardless of what is in it, makes no difference in driver safety. Before I had bluetooth, I would be steering with my elbows, shifting with my left hand, losing part of my peripheral vision from my arm being in the way, etc. While I do agree that talking at all is probably less safe than not talking at all, I think you're still far less responsive when you're holding something up to your head while driving than being empty handed. That's where the issue lies.

Also, I don't know how talking into thin air (bluetooth) is any different than talking to a passenger sitting next to you. I believe they made the law because it's a handheld object, not because you lose concentration...
