Got my wheels today. Again, they're Bimmerworld TA5R's in 17x8.5 ET38. Absolutely loving the look and quality of them. Already got ceramic coating applied so they'll be protected from the onslaught of brake dust and molten rubber inherent to track days, and will be easier to keep clean. They're super light for their size, coming in at just over 17 pounds per wheel. These are flow formed, not forged like the TA16's.
Just need to order tires for them now. Clearance to the strut tube is tight, but I think it'll work as long as the tire is relatively square. My main concern is the spring perch, so I may be forced to do camber plates (oh no, how tragic) that'll let me shift the spring upwards.

1M body conversion
I'm working on converting my 128i to the 1M body. On the rear, after much thought and research, I decided to use the fiberglass flare with a different install method. Seems that most approaches, whether factory panel or not end up having bare metal that cannot be reached for coating. So, what I did was cut the inner fender, weld in a spacer strip as needed for the wider 1M flare, and then epoxy coat everything. Fender flare is then panel bonded to the body, and inner fender edge. High strength kevlar filler, and then regular filler and epoxy primer.

Not sure what you are asking. My one concern is that by bonding to quarter and innner fender, any flex in chassis might compromise the flare, but seems unlikely. I came real close to getting the oem quarters, but its just gets too expensive for the panels, and then each install method including full quarter replacement has its shortcomings, unless you have the expensive rivet tool.
I'll update if I encounter any issues, but this approach seems like a decent economical solution that will be durable and appear correct. Afterall, the prescribed slitting of the inner fender and then gooping it up is just too crude in my opinion, and there is no way to coat the inside of the inner fender afterwards. No good. |

Since I live in Puerto Rico & we're in quarantine, I decided to work on the car. I repaired the door panels, that where starting to peel of, I also fixed a crack on my carbon fiber hood, & also went to work on a little project I've wanted to do for a long time. It's a custom steering wheel, it'll be forged carbon fiber, with black perforated leather, white stitching & a white 12 o'clock strip.

Hunkered down and bored so I changed my trans and diff fluid. The Redline MTL trans fluid had 28918 miles on it and looked good. I replaced it with more MTL. Diff fluid had 21397 miles on it and looked great. With the clutch-type LSD I was expecting black fluid, but it was amazingly clean (#diffsonline!). I replaced the Redline 75W140 diff fluid with Redline 75W90 just because. If I don't like it I have more 75W140 on the shelf, but it's probably over-kill.

Yesterday - did a coolant changeout. I got 5.0 L out = about 60%. I was going to do a proper flush but got lazy and figured since I've done this every 2 years it was good enough.
Coolant looked like new - no surprise given the few miles I've done in the last few years. Probably going 3 years until the next one unless my miles increase. While the car was up and the underbody shielding off, put on a 135i front ARB I've had sitting around. In case anyone didn't know, the two bars are the same diameter. Difference is the tapered part is about 5" on the 135i bar vs 10" for the 128i. Worst and most time consuming part of the whole day was getting the #%^# undershielding back on.

Looks like a good fit brother, nothing beats a nice, meaty fitment. Great choice on the tires too. I realized that you’re pretty close to where i am, will see you around when i drive around in my 128! I used to work a lot in your area!

Quarantine work. Did a new vcg, just because I'm bored. Didnt need it.
Bought 3 refurbished index 12 fuel injectors. I know, I know, lesson learned!!! All had the same number on them for coding. I tried anyway and filled my garage with gas smell and misfires on all 3 cylinders. Lol. Took them out sent them back for a return. Ordered new from fcp. But cleaning and changing the seals on the old ones worked well. Car is running great. BTW my car had 2 index 6's and an index 10 in bank 1 and 2 index 9's and 1 index 6 in bank 2 and the index 9 was the only one giving me an occasional misfire. Always cylinder 2. Guess you can mix injectors. I put all index 6's in bank 1 and the 2-9's and 10 in bank 2 and all the 6's will be replaced this weekend. Couple weeks I'll get the rest of the index 12's, damn things are pricey |
