Question LCI tail lights- can you retrofit them to an 08/08 E82

I saw a set of the LCI tail lights with the upswept outer strips the other night and quite liked the look. Now while I like the existing tail lights (it was one of my favourite cosmetic features of the 1er) I'm entertaining the idea of installing the newer style.

Has anyone done or tried this and can confirm if it works?

Are these the new ones that come standard on '11 models and the 1M? I believe that if your rear lights fault out, because of the recall you will get the new LCI lights?

I do not think they come on the '11 because I got mine and do not have the LCI tail light. I believe they will come standard on the '12

They're standard on 2012, not 2011 and they will likely work with coding.

I really like the LED strips on the existing tail lights but i'm sure once i start seeing the new 1er lights on the street i'll want a pair!

Where would you buy them from? Dealer?

I am sure if you want to throw out the money to get these the dealer will order and code your car for you.

I for one won't be spending the $500? USD per light [my estimate...]

What coding is required? And could it be done by a non-dealer mechanic?

RealOEM.com shows the '08-'11 tail lights to list at $177 each. I don't see why the '12 tails would be much more money than the old lights/lenes. ?

Why can't you? Just go to your local BMW dealer and have them look up a 135i that was built in March/2011. Since the cars are being built(now!) with these lights... anyone can order the new-er parts.

I would be curious to the price of the new tails. and IF any coding or error codes are thrown with these lights on an per 2012 M.Y.
