Stolen Plates!!!

Earlier today I get a letter from the State of Florida Department of Transportation with an invoice for $8.00 for using their toll roads. They had a picture of my Illinois license plate on a Nissan. The only problem is my plates are registered to my 1M and i've never taken the 1M to Florida.

I'm guessing someone made a counterfeit plate that happened to be my my licence plate. Now I gotta call the DMV and sort this mess out.

Your first call might be to your local law enforcement.

LOL, its no big deal, call the customer service on the letter, I have a similar letters awhile back with a picture of a blurry car with a plate that is not readable. The car wasn't mine, they have a company that operates the expressway that does auto pay or by mail. They have cameras taking pics of cars that passes the Florida turnpike/expressway instead of using toll stop, SunPass charges those that don't have prepaid monitor thingy, they use those dam electronic monitoring system that couldn't read plates that good. So call Sun Pass to clear it up.

I'd notify local authorities like previously mentioned and sort it out.

Perhaps once you file a claim you can take said claim number and then use it as evidence that it clearly isn't you.

if the picture is clear, and you recognize your plate, then call the authority and Sun Pass in Florida.

Hmmm...we had the exact same scenario. IL plates from a former car caught on a FL toll road. They even billed us at the home address never affiliated with the plate/car (no longer live in IL). Something going on. Maybe it is the state of FL behind it all knowing you are used to corruption in IL.

I called the State of Florida and they said it was a 'misread' by the system and they just went with the closest match which happened to be me. I verified my car with them and they cleared the charge. I asked if I had to contact the police about counterfeit plates and they said no. Case closed

lol what I said earlier, its silly system, most elderly who don't know better would pay them without asking, mostly snowbirds go down here in the winter. Good revenue for the system.
