Secondly, I think you need to take one point at a time, since you mixing points and confusing yourself.

You're argument is, that since the 1M doesn't use a different block, then it's not worthy of you, because you deem that non-M. So you belittle the 1M. (It's pathetic)

I am telling you that in any instance, the design & engineering of the car, is more //M, than re-using a proven block, to target their goals.!!

Lastly, your whole argument rests on the 1M not having enough horpseower... which clearly indicates you don't understand what this car is. .... and it's a no wonder why you have to ask: "explain to me how a 1M is more focused than an M3"..?

The 1M is a handling monster. That is the reference to the E30 M3 (small tossible). The M3 won't be able to touch it on the skidpad, or uber-handling situations. The M3 is simply too big & heavy to be tossible like the E30 was. That is why HP isn't a concern (ironically TQ is, and u forget to mention that, conveniently), because it doesn't need more HP. It's a 3.0 liter, bi-turbo with 380ft-lbs of torque and will probably get 30mpg...

... how in the world don't you see the utter differences, in what these cars are engineered to do? The 1M is cenetered around better grip, better handling, better floggability... (none of which you can easily do to a 135i, btw) in a smaller, lighter no-frills package than the M3.

The 1M is simple & more track focused, while the M3 is more luxurious/upscale, more sophisticated, focused on high speed, hi-revving autobahn situations.
Good Writing!

Nice. If you had half a clue how much reliable intel we get out of Scott (who happens to be an BMW insider), you'd be a little more thankful, or at least polite. Unless of course you're bored by all the inside scoops and hints Scott has been dropping us for years.

What did you expect? A full test drive?

A little civility would go long way on this forum.

However, I do not take Scott's posts as a favour to the BMW community. It is part of his job, implied or explicit, to keep touch with and to provide feedback from, the collective BMW community of enthousiasts.

Latest Evo magazine has a 3 page review. he gives car 5 stars, and says you don't just walk away admiring the car, but actually feeling like you "need it". Only real downside seems to be a lack of noise (at least on the prototype).

He claims bigger turbos, better steering than e92 M3, feeling of driving a very fast, very rear driven car, dominated by the diff. Interior is just standard 135i, but most likely only on the prototype. Reasonable brakes, but so much chance to test them seriously. That's about it.

A few more quotes from the article -

"There isn't another car I want to be my everyday companion in 2011 as much as a new 1 series M Coupe"

"it won't be built in limited numbers"

"expect around £40,000"

"Performance, I reckon it's as fast as an M3" - remember he owned one

"there are a few areas of critisism, but overall nothing that stops me badly wanting one of these things"

From what I can pick out of the article, his critisisms are -

Lack of steering feel, but he thinks it's better than the M3
Unexceptional noise - but BMW are working on it
Seat a bit too high

"it won't be built in limited numbers"
From Chris.

Yet, overwhelming intel on this car states otherwise.

I really wish this issue could be clarified.

Well it's marketed with limited in mind. Like someone else said it seems like the whole marketing campaign was ran by 2 guys in their garage. 2700 units, $3000 gross margin on each doesn't make a convincing statement for more investment on the vehicle.

If production is constrained in time, to ~9 months which seems possible. Then numbers will be implicitly limited - it's common sense right? I don't know what their production capacity will be, but I would expect it to exceed 10 units per day (=2700 units over 9 months).
