Berk Race Exhaust N55 *Review*
Please watch in 1080p. Ok a bit hungover so bare with me on this one. I'll start by saying I ordered it from EAS and had the axleback powder-coated black to look as close to stock as possible. The powder-coat job looked really good, I was impressed with the quality. They will powder-coat it for 100$ if anyone is interested in keeping black tips. I then took it to Lutz Performance which is run by a great bunch of guys, they were very accommodating to my work schedule and helped out a lot during the process. Now to the fitment. I would rather have Lutz Performance and Berk discuss this in this thread because they will be able to explain it better. In my words: The first time I got my car back there was a ton of vibration and rattling, this was usually only on bumpy roads and low idle. I emailed Bryan from Berk and he responded right away with a solution. Here is a pic for reference: You can see the first red circle is where the Berk hanger was supposed to go, and the second red circle is one of the locations it was rubbing. You can also see the awesome powder-coat job in that picture, I have a larger one if anyone wants. Well I took my car back in on Saturday to get that hanger changed out. I was a bit out of it that morning and to busy playing Black Ops in their new waiting room, but I believe they changed out the bracket and Diego and I went for a test drive and there was no rattling what so ever...... Until of course Diego went back inside and I was about to pull away. There was again a rattle/vibration coming from under the shifter area, probably around where the midpipe meets the downpipe. So they put it back up on the lift, and ill let Diego explain what kind of altercations they made because I forget exactly what they did. So one more test drive on some bumpy roads and it was all good and I have yet to hear any rattling since yesterday morning. Now lets talk about the sound of this bad boy. For those who are wondering if it is louder then stock, that's not even a question. It doesn't sound "ricey" loud but it is definitely loud and sounds great at the same time, however I can easily drown out the sound of the exhaust with my music at medium volume. It is a bit louder than I had initially wanted, although nowhere near as loud as my 93rx7, but it has really grown on me and I really like it. To address the "French Horn" problem, If this is the same problem as the "waving a garden hose around in a circle" problem, Occasionally I will hear the garden hose sound, I think it might have to do with the way it sounds in the cabin with windows up though. On one of my WOT pulls in the video I had thought I heard it but after watching the video I could not hear it at all. If anything it is slightly there but only sometimes, It certainly is not enough of an issue to drive me away from this exhaust, Berk also advertises this exhaust is not for street use so keep that in mind(IMO its more than fine for every day use). If anyone has anymore questions please feel free to ask. I will try to get more videos today, if I can't I will have some next weekend(drive by and in cabin). Thanks for reading! Note: This is the midpipe + muffler delete (no resonators). Last edited by FDfranklin; 02-27-2011 at 08:36 AM.. |

Midpipe and muffler delete? Or just muffler delete? Is the muffler delete section still having problems with the "french horn" noise?

My sport system had similar issue with fitment...my hanger in your red circle was bent and resulted in it hitting the bracket in the same place as your other red circle. Quick 30sec bend of that hanger and I can now fit my entire hand between the mid-pipe and that circled bracket.
I think the french horn sound was a different issue than the air whooshing sound you describe. The french horn sound from the videos was more vibrating horn sounding (not sure how to describe that) than just the air whooshing out that I hear occasionally and that others describe. |

Do you know by any chance if Lutz performance plugged the vacuum line that goes into the stock exhaust to open and close that flap when they installed the exhaust?
