Good to hear. If they have a new chief of the M section, he might just decide to throw together a wide body better version of our car and call it the 135M. To make a complete M conversion of our cars would be difficult to make have much better performance and not out perform the M3 which they would not want to do.

I am assuming that, like all other BMWs sold in the UK and the Euro zone, the car will cost less here than the currency equivalent to the prices there? If no, I don't see anyone paying £32,000 or $52,660 for a 1 series before options. The idea's great though.

Just pretty much confirmed the ///m 1 series by BMW head Dr. Kay Segler in an interview at the m3 gts introduction.
"This is why a product below the BMW M3 more important to me than a super sports car which is only accessible to a few. As I have already mentioned in other interviews, we are currently looking closely at the options in this area. I hope to be able to tell you more the next time we speak." https://www.m-power.com/_open/b/edit...lang=en&x=2021

imo, they are going to build a brand that will last with the 1M, so the names I would expect to see are //M1 or //M Coupe. The only people that care about the M1 name previously being tied to a one off supercar are the hardcore enthusiasts. Outside of that, no one cares. I would anticipate that //M1 will be the "new" name. A new //M supercar will have a new moniker to match its tier in the brand structure.

The time frame is a lot longer than I want to wait. Though, I can just buy a beater for now. The new M 1 is slated for the same price point as the E46M3 with 135i around 36-37 base the new M car will be around 43-44 (just few ground below the old M3) and will be easily 50k out the door, tax, title and license.
I am really curious on the weight of the vehicle. Probably a pipe dream to consider anything under 3000lb, the real weight will be closer to 3200-3300 lbs or 200 lbs less than current 135i Last edited by Robert; 11-04-2009 at 12:31 PM.. |

I dont care what the hell they call it, so long as its not a 1er SS.
Heres what I predict/ really really hope for. I want it to have the same engine as the M3, just smaller, lighter, and more agressive in every way. I feel like the M3 has hit its midlife crisis. Its gotten bloated and way too cushy. The people that typically buy the current M3 are midagged somethings that just want be pampered as they drive fast (or they are just cocks). Make the 1er in the spirit of the original M3, which was a car only built so that BMW could race with it. Make it harsh, agressive, and most importantly, small. |

Only if BMW dials so much understeer into the car that an Abrams can outturn it.

The current 135 already has a 300bhp TT straight six, M suspension and six pot Brembo calipers with large rotors(better than a M3 already). With a Dinan Stage II a stock 135i will produce well over the expected 330bhp the future car is expected to make. Sounds like you're going to get a very expensive M package with very little actual performance increases.
