Yep, but if you look at the spirit that made the M1 it kinda isnt. Hey Lamborghini. This is [Insert German Car Manufacturer here] how would you like to make a mid-engined supercar with us? haha, I dont actually believe it but again, im pointing out how silly some of the arguments made on this forum are. No prob But in all seriousness none of that is directed towards you. Just some general frustrations. |

Part of me says sure, because its an M version of the 1 series. However, it has nothing to do with the original M1. Maybe they should try to come to some agreement on the name. Like perhaps MSuperSport referring to that supersport version they were talking about. That way if they actually do make another mid engined supercar the name will be available for heritage purposes. Although, if you think about it, that heritage is rapidly changing with the F/I engines and SUVs.

Call it the new ///M Coupe maybe..? I'm not really old enough to be bothered if they name it the M1 (wasn't around when the M1 was; I'd probably have more of an emotional attachment if i were.).. Curious to know what they'd call a supercar if they built one though.

Call it an M1 if it s really an M1 an AG turbo has nothing to do with proper ///M engines. So no worthy ///M badge on the boot then. If the engine is ///M build and runs 8400 rpm minimum YES PUT A BIG FAT ///M ON THE BOOT
An X5///M and X6///M are no real ///M cars it s AG car with some ///M badges. I hope it doesn t goes the same way for the M1. |

I do not see any reason why a car mimicked after its predecessor should not inherit the same name.

It doesn't matter what we say. But here's my input.
If they decide to make a new supercar and call it the M1 people may mistake it for being an M version of the current 1 series. So personally, I say go ahead and call the M version of the 1 series an M1, and when the supercar comes out call it M10 or something to show that it's the highest M version and not the lowest...

Call it M1...
That'll sell more cars now so BMW can keep making "our" kind of cars in the future...

Do NOT call it an M1. Please.
M1 was the first M car. The 1st!! And M1 is such a powerful name. I would hate for BMW to make a new supercar and have to name it something stupid because they have already designated the M1 badge to a 1 series. This is with all due respect to the 1 series and what it is capable of and what it will be capable of as an M car. But the fact still remains, M1 is possibly the strongest, boldest, most beautiful name BMW has. And judging from current names like "Efficient Dynamics" and "Z4 sDrive 35is", I would say its probably the best name/badge it will have in the near future. As a avid fan of the 1 series, BMW, and M, I say please... please dont use the M1 badge on the 1er.

Dude, if it's a real ///M car in the 1 series line it should be called an ///M1. Period. Who cares that they called the old supercar that decades ago. If they revive it they can call it the ///M10 (<--- see the 1 in there?) which would top it out in the numbered series range for them and have the lineage.
Case closed.

///M-CSL
you guys remember the CSL? Coupe Sport Lightweight? The 1er is a "Coupe", the M version will DEFINITELY be "Sport", its the lightest BMW (give or take with the Z4) which justifies "Lightweight". Do it. DO IT!

I don't really care what it's called, I mean, I never even seen the original M1 on the roads before. I mean UNLESS BMW is really going to production with the M1 Homeage Concept, then sure, reserve the M1 badge for it, or else, who cares!?
I mean there were debate over whether those X5/X6 M should even carry the M badge, BMW doesn't seems to care all the opposition on that, why would they care for the M1? |

I still don't understand why anyone thinks an M version of the 1 Series should be called ANYTHING but an M1, just like an M version of the 3 and 5.
