Question: What is with all that black tape around the housing and red wire. Looks a little old school, "100 mile an hour tape" fixe'r-up-job

James
Dunno about tape. Engine cover had lot of tape too...maybe they are trying to hide something. Pre-production car?
The hood was closed. I purposely opened it to take some shots. To see where the JB or Dinan will go.

Assuming the image was taken of a the right side shock, it is most likely:
E90/E92 M3

I took my mechanic with us today to be sure this was the right car for me.

He liked the rear layout & spotted the prototype muffler immediately. He also said this was not a final product.

Getting a real good look at those newly innovated side air curtains

Taking in all the lines of the car here.

Interior knobs and buttons went thru some rigorous testing.

He even squeezed into the wheel well to get the model numbers off the front shock for you guys. Now that's 1(M)addict

If the price was similar, though, he'd opt for the TTRS

Tape in the engine bay is covering the oil fill and coolant reservoir to keep idiots from putting foreign bodies into the engine fluids.

The vehicles I looked at (after I got cramps ogling the 1SMC) also had tape over their vital orifices. I overheard an event staffer say it's to stop souvenir hunters.

As far as the interior is concerned, I thought it was quite nice. I'm not sure what all of the concern is i.e. it's cheap etc. I thought the interior is decent. It's an M car. IMHO M means stripper, NOT luxury-bloat (which is what they've become until the 1SMC). Also, the 1SMC is a budget car. It's parts-bin in many ways, but some things had to be sacrificed to market it at the price it's up for.

I think the interior is commensurate with the asking price, IMHO. Didn't feel cheap at all. In stark contrast to nearly every other vehicle I saw at the convention...

Saw the 1M yesterday. I was very impressed with the paint, but I would still order it in black or white. I love the front, adore the flared fenders, but dislike the faux side vent. Black will hide that nicely. I like the interior as well but not overwhelmingly so. The car does look more Mish in person than in pictures, def looks like a M. I would need a proper test drive to make a final judgement on the car but it does remind me a bit of a e46M, albeit not as iconic looking. I am cross shopping the 1M and the e92 M3 and I'm 70/30 in favor of the M3....so far.
my favorite part of seeing the 1M were the comments from the novices.
"This car has no options in it, I would never pay 47K for that!"
"Check out this M3"
"I wouldn't get this in Manual"
