Stupid Question

I'm hoping for no smartass responses.. I have been to the dealership twice to get my DME update for my N55.. dealership said that these updates are only done by VIN number and if my VIN doesnt pull that it needs an update.. they won't do it.. thoughts? How is everyone else having such an easy time getting this done.

BMW knows what programming you have based on your VIN. You might already have it, or, they haven't released programming to your block of VINs because (just about anything).

Lexus does the same thing. I have an 06 IS350 that sometimes needs updated stuff and sometimes doesn't even when other 06 cars need them.

A lot of it is because of changes in suppliers and small mid-year engineering changes.

Trust me... you do not want BMW's SW update! Chances are the SW update will make the engine less responsive (the new SW keeps the turbo wastegate open under throttle and quiets down the injector ticking) while making it idle & run quieter. IF you bought your 135i for the power... I would stay away from any SW updates.

I learned this the hardway with my N54. I think the N55 is the same way.
