As I understand, no mods can void the warranty unless the cause of the damage/problem is that mod.

It can only void warranty IF, without doubt, having the aftermarket accessories are the cause of the warranty claim.
With wheels, I highly doubt there is ANYTHING that can cause a warranty claim. |

I really doubt it....tho I guess if you put some really heavy wheels on and drove a ton of miles under the worst conditions, you could wear out or break something prematurely

The answer is no but it gives them more of a reason to really comb over the car looking for other possible mods so be careful if you have a tune.

The answer is yes and no.
As users have posted above, the faulty part caused by the aftermarket part will void warranty for replacing the faulty part.

Lets say your wheel bearings failed prematurely.......I wouldn't doubt it if they busted chops, claiming improper mounting of the wheels or an alteration of the alignment, due to aftermarket wheels/tires.
I wouldn't sweat it though.

I have after market rims and larger tires on my Tacoma. A seal in the front right wheel went and they replaced it under warranty with no questions ask.

I think the "void the warranty" phrase is incorrect in itself and causes confusion. Warranties, by law in the U. S., cannot be declaired null and void based upon a technicality. On the other hand, the manufacturer is not responsible for damage you do purposefully or inadvertantly to the car. So if you do something to cause a problem, it is not covered by the warranty. If you do something to the car, including a tune, that is not the cause of the problem, the dealer might mess with you but they are legally required to honor the warranty.
It makes sense if you think about it. Why should the manufacturer be resonsible for damage we cause? Make sure you put wheels on that have the correct dimensions and there is nearly no way they can be the source of the problem. The worst that can happen at the dealer is some extra discussion and that is unlikely. Jim

indeed putting aftermarket rims or tires on your car that are different than OEM can cause issues, but sedom do. Trading in a BMW with aftermarket rims will lower it's trade in value as BMW can not certify the car...no biggie...but put oversize tires on the car and if rubbing, alignment, or anything related to this can give the dealership a out if they REALLY think that the larger tires or rims caused issues with anything suspension related...I had 2 sets of aftermarket rims on my last ride..Advan RS and Rota Torque, and each time the dealer did mention that my warranty is NOT an issue unless the rims or oversize tires cause a issue to a OEM part...this is true for every aftermarket mod....if the mod effects a OEM part than the dealer has the right to question...but in reality dealers seldom bust chops on rims....it's the engine dept. that excites them LOL....
